Using both Hopper's car and Jonathan's, they got everyone to the place Hopper knew there was going to be salt. Hawkins High.

After they got the pool ready for Eleven, they all circled around the pool, watching Eleven get ready. She lowered herself into the pool before her body floated to the surface. The lights in the gym started to flicker before they shut off completely.

They waited for something to happen when Eleven spoke. "Barb? Barbara?"

Nancy slightly leaned forward, wanting to know what was happening.

They waited for another moment when the lights started to flicker again. "What’s going on?"

"I don’t know." Mike shrugged.

"Is Barb okay? Is she okay?" Nancy interrogated the girl.

"Gone. Gone." Eleven cried out.

Nancy gasped at Eleven's words, guessing that Barb was gone forever. Clara pulled Nancy by her side and held her tightly as she lightly sobbed.

Joyce tried comforting Eleven through it all but Eleven kept screaming the same word. "Gone. Gone!"

Joyce continued and lightly pulled Eleven closer to her through the water. Eleven stopped talking for a moment until she spoke again. "Castle Byers. Castle Byers. Will?"

Joyce gasped at the name. "You tell him I’m coming. Mom is coming."

Clara listened in on the walkie-talkie to hear Will's faint response. "Hurry."

"Okay. Listen, you tell him to... to stay where he is." Joyce stammered. "We’re coming. We’re coming, okay? We’re coming, honey. Just... just hold on a little longer."

They heard whimpering on the radio, realizing Eleven was about to come back. Eleven popped up from the water, making everyone jump. Joyce pulled the young girl into her arms and embraced her. Eleven placed her hand on Joyce's lower arm as a way to hug back.

The boys found a towel and covered up Eleven with the towel to dry her off. Clara followed her sister out while the boys took care of Eleven. She couldn't imagine Nancy's pain. Barb was her best friend for years and now she was gone.

While they sat outside of the gym, Jonathan joined the girls and sat on the tile ground with them.

"Your mom and Hopper are just walking in there like bait." Nancy began. "That thing is still in there. And we can’t just sit here and let it get them, too. We can’t."

Jonathan sighed at Nancy's words as he gave in hesitantly. "You still wanna try it out?"

"I wanna finish what we started." She responded. "I want to kill it."

...

The trio left the school, leaving the boys alone while they went back to the Byers household. While on the way there, they reestablished the plan in the car. They went over what to do before they set up the house for the ambush.
