juliana's pov:
i enter the room with jeremiah on my arm.
"jeremiah." the lady who runs this thing says.
"paige." he replies back to her.
"where's your shirt?" she inquires him.
"it's always a pleasure."
"mm-hmm." she says not pleased.
"this is jules. uh- i mean, this is juliana banks. the young woman my mom told you about, my future wife." i softly slap him at his remark.
"she's late." paige says sternly.
"i'm so sorry." i respond.
"you're at table two." she tells me.
"are those those little brie and fig jam sandwiches with the prosciutto?" jeremiah asks paige.
"don't you dare." she says to him.
"okay"
"those are for the girls." paige warns him.
without care, jere quickly runs as paige shouts "jeremiah! those are for the girls!" and he takes one.
"just one!" he tells her. turning to me with a small smile he says, "knock 'em dead."
i walk over nervously. i've never usually do fancy things like this. yet i love dressing up, i always feel so pretty. i'm sit downwith the debutantes at my table, theres gigi, nicole, belly, shayla, and some others. the awkward silence is loud and obnoxious.
i hear a girl named shayla start whispering to belly, who i'm sitting next too. then a girl next to me, i remember her as nicole, looks over to me.
"hey! i'm nicole, i don't know if you remember me from the bonfire?" she asks.
"ah, yes i that's where i'd recognized you. i'm jules, by the way."
"it's great to finally meet you. conrad has told me so many great things!" nicole says to me.
what? i had no idea conrad was talking to her... that is so odd. i don't know if i should tell belly or not. she likes him so much, it would crush her. but, it's probably the right thing to do.
i laugh at her remark and say, "it's so good to meet you as well. we definitely should keep in touch."
"yes! that would be amazing. what's your number so i can put it in my phone?"
i give nicole my number. though i'm weary about it. i vaguely remember seeing her at the party with conrad. but not too much. with nicole's number in my phone i have a feeling somethings are going to change. not due to that specific fact, but to the fact, i had met her.
conrad has never mentioned a girl to me or to anyone this summer, from what i've seen. maybe this is why he has been acting so weird lately. no. it can't be. it must be something else. but the real question is what.
i look over to belly and her bruise is gone? i slightly tilt my head and she mouths to me "makeup." so i assume she or someone covered it up.
"i told my mom the only way i would do this is if i could bring my girlfriend, 'cause i thought it would be a deal killer, but the club has been surprisingly chill about the whole thing." a girl across the table from me spoke. nicole looks at my confused face and told me her name is marisa.
"i'm honestly shocked." another girl i didn't recognize says.
a few of the girls in unison agree with her statement.
"literally, dara, i was expecting a conversion camp to spring out of the bushes." marisa turned to the other girl, who i now know is dara. "no. lesbians and debutantes are, like, a completely juxtaposing idea."
