Draco's POV ~
Yesterday had been a dream. It had been unreal. It was six a.m. and here he was, getting ready for a job at the ministry, appointed by the, admittedly very hot, head of Aurors himself. He looked at himself in the mirror, eyes glazed over. They had gone for ice cream yesterday evening, just as Po- Harry had promised. He had had green apple and Harry had had Pumpkin spice.
He looked at himself again and turned slightly. He had opted for velvety black robes, over the top of a suit minus the waistcoat and tie. He left one button at the top undone. He wanted to make a good impression on his first day. His eyes drifted up to his hair. Maybe he should leave it product-free today? Try to erase his image as the uptight and bitchy eleven-year-old he had once been?
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and just decided to go for it. He had to meet Harry in roughly half an hour. He had time to eat before then and perhaps be a little bit early.
After a quick breakfast of fresh fruit and yoghurt, he made his way out of the Manor, locking the door behind him. It was the house elves' day off today. He made his way down the long and winding driveway, leaves fluttering to the ground behind him, a small tang of fresh autumn puncturing the air around him.
He made it outside of the wards and took the piece of parchment out of his pocket that Harry had given him. It said to aparate to Potter Manor. Draco looked at it in shock. He had forgotten that there was a Potter manor, possibly as lush and expensive as his own, if not more so.
He closed his eyes and managed to aparate just outside of the wards there. The trees were all crimson red, almost signifying the generations of Gryffindors who had lived within. He shuddered at the thought of all those ghosts. He made his way towards the gate and found it was unlocked, so, taking a risk, he pushed his way inside and started strolling down the leaf-carpeted driveway.
He barely made it halfway down the drive when he saw Harry almost flying towards him he was running so fast. He managed to skid to a halt just before he ran into Draco, who stood braced arms across his face. "Sorry!" He yelped, "I just didn't want you to get inside. We aren't at our cleanest right now and Hermione made me get rid of all the house elves-"
"Oh, hush Harry it's fine. Also, how did Hermione get rid of ALL the house elves? This place is bigger than Malfoy manor for sure and we have over twenty house-elves. That's ridiculous. You can't be expected to clean up this place all on your own." Draco was indignant and very offended on Harry's behalf.
He stopped and looked at Harry to see him grinning like the Cheshire cat. "It's fine don't worry. Anyway, are you excited? It's your first ministry job, right?" Draco nodded slightly. "Yes. Yes, it is." He took a moment to fully comprehend the excitable man-boy in front of him. He was wearing emerald green robes that matched his eyes, and a suit just like Draco was wearing, but it was also green.
"Well yes I'm happy to have the job of course but excited might be a stretch." Harry rolled his eyes at him. "You grumpy git." Then without warning, Harry grabbed a hold of his hand and Draco felt the sensation of being apparated by side-long apparation, arguably worse than apparating on his own.
"YOU GIT!" He burst out as he stumbled when they got there. Harry just laughed and started to walk away. "Here just go into that toilet there and you'll- what am I saying you know how to get in obviously. I'll meet you by the fountain Draco."
Draco nodded then began to move smartly towards the men's toilets, Harry's gaze following him. He opened the door and quickly darted into the cubicle that said out of order. Grimacing, even though he knew the water wouldn't actually touch him, he stepped into the toilet bowl.
It was a strange sensation, not being able to feel the water. He closed his eyes and flushed, feeling the all too familiar sensation of being pulled through a tube. He eventually came out, after only a few seconds, in the main hall of the ministry.
He stepped out of the fireplace and promptly walked into a female witch. She turned around in surprise. "I'm ever so sorry-"
"Death eater scum of the earth." She spat at him before walking away and leaving him standing there, accumulating more than a few stares. He took a moment, then dusted off his robes and began to walk towards the fountain, where he saw Harry waiting, forehead creased in what could be mistaken for concern if one wasn't careful.
Harry rushed towards him. "Oh my god, Draco, are you okay?" He asked words tumbling out in a rush. Draco nodded and put on a brave face. "Nothing I wasn't expecting." Harry nodded, still clearly worried and motioned for Draco to follow him towards the lift.
"Well, we've had a new medical bay put in overnight for you." Draco looked at him in shock. "For me?" Harry winked at him. "Well for the Aurors safety and health, so I told Hermi- The minister." Draco shook his head at him. "You shouldn't have Harry." Harry just winked again.
The lift beeped and they clambered out. They walked together along corridors until they came to a heavy oak door, with a plaque that said, 'Head of Aurors' with Harry's name underneath. There was a less grand door next to it with the words 'medical bay' on it. Draco grinned and basically ran into the room.
