The Second Mistake

Tonight is the night of the dreaded dance. I really, really, don't want to go, but I am. I already have my dress on (pictured), my converse, and thick, cat-eyeliner. Now I just have to wait for my friends to pick me up.
My dad is out tonight, so I can be home whenever. To be honest, I don't know where he is; probably a bar.
I hope this night goes well. I really don't want to embarrass myself I front of the kids at my school, even if most of them are total assholes. Plus, Drew is going as my 'date', and he's an eleventh grader.
I sure hope I look okay. I straightened my hair and everything! I also put on concealer to hide the fact I haven't slept in three days.
-
"Yo' Jaylee!" Matthew's distinct voice called from outside my house. Well, I guess it's time to go.
Shit, should I bring a purse? Do girls still wear purses?... Do I bring my phone?! Fuck it, I'm not bringing anything.
-
I met the boys in my driveway. They're all dressed up so nicely and I look... Like me.
"Damnnnnn Jay!" Jax cat-called.
"Watch it!" Matthew sneered.
My relationship with Matthew is kind of funny. At fist, I had a tiny little crush on him, and now he's like an overprotective older brother!
"You look beautiful." Drew half-smiled.
I looked down at the concrete in attempts to hide the huge smile on my face.
"Don't I look beautiful?" Jax jokingly asked. I tilted my head to evaluate his... While... Tux? I'm not quite sure what it is, but there too much white and it somehow manages to make him look shorter. As if 5'3 wasn't short enough.
"Better than I look." I laughed.
"Not true!" Matthew immediately snapped.
"If you girls are done here..." Drew hinted as he opened up the drivers door to the car I've come to love.
"Yea, yea, lets go, squad!" Jax happily exclaimed.
--------------
"Why does Jay always get to sit in the front?" Jax complained from the backseat. "And Matt, why does Drew always drive YOUR car?!"
"Well, technically it's not my car..."
Drew rolled his eyes.
"Can we just get to the Goddamn dance so Matthew can stalk Sara?"
"I think you mean, 'have her fall in love with me and we live happily ever after'." Matthew corrected.
"No, dude. That's stalking." Drew pointed out as he pulled into the fairly crowded school parking lot.
"Let's just have a good time, because this year, I'm not going to spike the punch." Jax proudly announced.
Drew slammed on the brakes and Matthew's mouth dropped.
"That... Was... You?!" Drew slowly said, obviously shocked.
Jax uncomfortably shifted in his seat.
"Uh, yea.."
"Nice." Matthew nodded before getting out of the car.
-------------------------
Bright strobe lights consumed the large gymnasium. Everywhere I looked; pointing, kissing, laughing, 'dancing'..... grinding.
"How do people like this?" I yelled to Drew, hoping he can hear me.
"It's fun." He simply said.
"I don't get it." I whispered as I played with the end of my dress.
"Jayyyyy!" Jax waltzed over to me out of the blue. "Let's get a drink!" He took my hand and led me away from Drew and to the drink table. A large group of guys crowded around the table; obviously intoxicated. "Have a drink!"
"I've never drank before!" I yelled over the loud, and shitty might I add, music.
"Have one! Maybe you'll open up a bit an socialise." Jax pressured as he picked up a red cup.
Before I could protest, I had a cup in my hand. Jesus, you can smell the mix of coke and fireball. How did they get Fireball? Without thinking further into it, I took a sip.
"Fucking hell!" I cursed as my throat burned with alcohol. This fucking hurts! But... I'll have another sip... And another... And another. I leaned up against a wall in the back of the gym, by the drinks table and a dark corner. Time for a second drink.
I finally understand why my dad does this so often.
I don't feel a fucking thing. I do feel loneliness though, but what's new. Now I sit here and watch people dance and be happy. Girls have their arms around their boyfriend's neck. They look content, and I, am sad.
I tossed my second cup in the trash and then picked up a third cup. I think I'm drunk. I don't know what drunk feels like, but I think this is it. I really need to sit down. No, I need to smoke. I can set myself on fire with some cigs, then put myself out with alcohol. I should go outside, if I can make it out there without falling over... That is.
As I make my way through the parking lot, I notice a guy smoking.
"Heyyyyy!" I slurred as I waved my arms.
"Hi, cutie!" The guy called back.
"Can I-" I hiccuped. "Can I have one?" I referred to his cigarettes.
"Sure, babe. But don't hurt yourself." He winked as he handed me the pack and a lighter.
"This isn't my first rodeo. I can light a damn cigarette." I drunkenly sassed.
"You look pretty young. You new?" The sly blonde boy asked.
"Freshman." I quietly responded.
"Cool." He smirked. "Soooo..."
"Hey!" A cold voice yelled.
I whipped around and saw Drew racing towards us. I took a quick drag before Drew reached us.
"Dude, why you so mad?" Blonde boy asked.
It didn't matter, Drew shoved him further into the parking lot and held him by the collar of his shirt.
"Dude, chill!"
"Stay away from her!" Drew gritted through his teeth.
The blonde guy put his arms up in defence.
"She approached me!" He defended.
"Doesn't matter... You know she's fourteen, right?" Drew sounded even more angry.
"Chill, I just have her a cig and we talked.... But I'd so bang 'er!" He smirked.
Drew punched him in the lower stomach.
"What the hell is your problem?!" The guy scrambled to get back on his feet, but he failed.
"I know what your intentions are! You think I don't know about you?" Drew tested.
Drew's victim looked confused.
"Jesus Christ! They call you 'one night stand Dan'!" He revealed.
'Dan' stood up to defend himself.
"That is true, but..." Dan didn't have an argument.
"Nothing. You have nothing. Now get the fuck out of here!" Drew even scared me. Without hesitation, Dan ran back to the school, allowing Drew to unclench his fists. Though I tried to stay quiet, I hiccuped.
"You're drunk." He sadly said. "An you smoked."
I rolled my eyes. His face fell.
"We need to- no! You're staying with us tonight." Drew ordered.
"Us?" I giggle
"Ya. Jax and I are staying at Matt's tonight. You should stay too. I don't want your dad seeing you like this, darling."
I took a small step back.
"Are you going to ra-" I worried.
"No!" He cut me off. "I would never do that! I would never go anything like that! I could never hurt anyone like that!" Drew carefully pulled me into a loving hug. "I'm not like Dan. Actually, I'm not like most guys in general."
I wrapped my arms around his neck an I buried my face in his chest.
"I'm s-s-so-sorry." I attempted to speak clearly.
"Shhhh, it's okay." He soothed. "Your head is going to hurt like crazy tomorrow."
I just sighed in defeat. This was my second mistake.
