"Hello, Miss. Can you have a seat?" Asks the man.

I just stand there motionless, not sure if I want to do anything besides walk out that door. That Scott guy looks at Shawn for the first time.

"Who is this young man?" He asks.

I look at Ronald, he looks pissed.

"I'm Shawn, I can go if you want.." Shawn says holding the door still.

Scott puts his hand up, "yes that'd be nice." he says.

I'm not sure if he wanted to be rude or not.. I look at Shawn, he flashes me a smile, then walks out closing the door.

"Can you sit down Allison?" Asks Scott.

I look at him blankly, "it's Ally," I say and take a seat on the couch across from him and Ron.

Scott folds his hands and looks at me.

"Since your moms death, where have you been staying?" He asks.

I swallow, "the Mendes's," I say plainly.

"Why? Do you not feel safe here, with Ron?" He asks.

I shrug and look at Ron. He's staring me down like don't say the wrong thing or I'll beat your ass.

I breathe out, "yes I feel safe, I just wanted to spend time with my friend.." I say.

He looks at a paper on the coffee table, "it says here that your father died when you were 4, from a car crash. You also have no family that your aware of?"

I think back, remembering my dads death when I was so little. Maybe now my mom and him can be together again. Then, it's true I have no family, we never went to birthday parties, or family reunions.

"Yes that's correct," I say.

He purses his lips and looks at Ron, then back to me.

"Well, by law Ron Murphy is your legal guardian. Your mother signed him over shortly before her death.." he says.

My stomach drops. "Does that mean I stay here? Live with him?" I ask faintly.

"Well, he is your guardian.." Scott says, then tilts his head. "Is there a problem with that?" He asks concerned.

I look at Ron, giving me the same look. I shut my mouth, then open again to speak.

"No, not at all."

________

Scott Rogers left shortly after Ron and I signed paperwork, showing that I still live here, with Ron.

Right as the man left our home, Ron took off his jacket.

He grunts, "you did well. Glad you didn't say anything you weren't supposed too," he says.

I sigh and start to walk up the stairs.

"Don't walk away from me!" He yells, causing me to jump. I stop at the first stair, and face him.

"I don't want you hanging around with.. Shawn Mendes," he says, looking disgusted as he says his name.

I scoff, "no!" I say without thinking. Who does this man think he is? Surely not my father.

He squints, "what did you say to me?" He asks rhetorically.

I stand there, not knowing what to expect. No one, is going to tell me not to hang with Shawn. He is literally my best friend, since diapers.

Ron sighs and throws down his coat, "I said no more! If I see you with him, there'll be trouble," he says.

I run my fingers through my hair, "what's so bad with him?! He's a good kid! My mom would've never said what you are right now!" I spit.
