*Note: I really don't like this one, so feel free to skip it. I won't delete it, but this is your warning that this one isn't very good*The Doctor walked briskly through the dark London neighborhood, paying the few passerby's no mind. He was angry, as he often was with this face, and he stomped around the corner. The TARDIS had dropped him somewhere and kicked him out into the street. He didn't know when or where he was, though it looked more or less like modern day London. But he couldn't know for sure.
Why had the TARDIS insisted he go here? It was just an ordinary neighborhood, to which dull was an understatement in his opinion. His sonic, which was gripped tightly in his wrinkled fingers, buzzed slightly when he passed by a small house. The Doctor stopped and back tracked a few steps, curious. The door was ajar and one of the windows was broken, smashed from the outside. When he approached, the sonic buzzed intently in his fingers, insisting he investigate.
Cautiously, the Doctor stepped through the doorframe, sonic held high. It was deathly quiet, the evidence of a break in of some sort obvious in the vandalized kitchen. The Doctor spun when he saw movement behind him, hearts pounding, but it was just a mirror next to the doorway, left untouched by the destructive hands of whoever'd ransacked the place. He quietly made his way through the house, peeking cautiously around every door he stepped though until he made it to a small living room who's broken windows overlooked a quaint garden. What was interesting about it was the three weeping angels standing over a small figure, a girl who couldn't be more than fifteen or sixteen with her eyes fixed on the statues. She cowered close to the ground, cornered, and her eyes watered from not blinking.
"Angels." The Doctor breathed, stooping to the girls level. "Hello, Im the Doctor, I'm here to get you out of here."
The girl said nothing, gaze unmoving from the statues, but she nodded faintly.
"Right, take my hand." The Doctor instructed, offering it to her, "I'll keep an eye on them." She did as she was told, carefully ducking under the angels' outstretched arms and all the while craning her neck to keep an eye on them. "Alright, when I say to, blink." He said when she was free, leading her towards the doorway. She gave him an inquisitive look, but he smiled reassuringly, "I've dealt with these before, you can trust me."
So, at the Doctor's command, they both blinked, allowing the angels to leap towards them. "Alright," the Doctor said quickly, "When I came inside, I saw a mirror by the door. Go and fetch it for me." She dashed away and returned a few seconds later. The Doctor backed up until they were both out of the doorway and propped the mirror where they'd been standing, trapping the quantum-locked statues in place.
The Doctor turned to the girl with a triumphant grin, who watched the statues curiously until the logic of it visibly clicked in her mind. "Oldest trick in the book." The Doctor said proudly. She grinned up at him, and he got a good look at her face. She had large dazzling e/c eyes and dried tears in her rose tinted cheeks that were framed by her silky h/c hair. But other than her face, or her bloodied hands (he guessed she must have cut herself somehow escaping from the angels), he noticed how she hadn't spoke a word. She hadn't cried out, or grunted, or made any noise at all. "What's your name?" The Doctor asked, searching her face. She frowned, gaze flashing to his hands.
Hesitantly, she raised her own and signed her name in ASL (I don't know if there's like British sign language or something, but this is what I've got). Unfortunately for the both of them, he couldn't understand it. But he didn't immediately realize that she couldn't speak, he assumed she was playing games with him or something. "What's your name?" He repeated. She frowned at him, crossing her arms. "Cmon, easiest question in the human language!" The Doctor said loudly, "How about todays date? What year is it? Im not sure I know myself, actually." Again, she said nothing. "Why won't you speak?" The Doctor demanded, taking a step forward. His irritation showed quite plainly on his face, and she stumbled backward, frightened. "Cmon, I just saved your life and your playing games with me?"
She held a hand up, fingers brushing her throat as she shook her head gently. "Oh. OH!!" The Doctor cried as he realized, palms to his forehead. "I'm an idiot! Im Doctor idiot now! Im so slow! You can't speak, can you?" She shook her head, shrugging apologetically. "That's why you didn't call for help. You were in an impossible situation, you would've died if it weren't for the TARDIS... Ah. I think the TARDIS might've taken a liking to you. Most likely why she saved your life. Well, come along, it's time you met her."
The girl followed him hesitantly through the broken home and into the TARDIS, inside which she looked around in silent awe. The TARDIS whirred approvingly at her presence, flipping a few switches. The floor lit up under her feet, something the Doctor had never seen before, and suddenly a harsh light erupted around her. She cried out in pain and dropped to her knees as the light faded. She'd cried out. She'd spoken.
"What..?" She managed, hands on her throat, "What's happened? How can I talk?"
"I'm not sure." The Doctor admitted, examining one of the screens, "Most likely is the TARDIS changed your DNA on a sub-atomic level and fixed your voice box. Any questions?"
"Yeah, actually," she said carefully, getting to her feet. "Doctor who?"

Sorry for the short chapter. I had several different ideas for this one that fell through, but I'm sort of happy with the outcome. I haven't actually watched Capaldi's Doctor in a while, so I think the personality is a bit off, but I tried.
