I pulled a woolly jumper over my slytherin uniform. Despite September not being that cold yet, it was early in the morning and it can be especially chilly in the dungeons.

It had already been two years since I had first started at Hogwarts and I was just starting my third year. Over the last two years I have become close with some of my slytherin housemates such as Pansy Parkinson, Theodore Nott and Blaise Zabini. However, some students such as Draco Malfoy still had some sort of problem with me.

While Malfoy was good friends with my friends, we clashed on an almost daily basis. On a good day, we would ignore each other but on a bad day we would argue whenever we were in the same vicinity. He liked to wind me up and I liked to react.

I started off everyday trying to avoid him, sometimes I would succeed but he always seemed to be looking for me.

Pansy was collecting her stuff while I wrapped my hair around my wand and pulled a few strands at the front out.

"You ready?" She called.

I nodded, grabbing my book and following her out the door.

In the great hall, I shoved my way next to Blaise while Pansy sat opposite me next to Theo. Stealing a muffin from Blaise's plate, I opened my book grinning innocently.

He grumbled, elbowing me playfully but reached to grab another.

"I'll let you off, but only because I know you're too short to reach the other muffins yourself." He winked at me as I gasped in outrage.

"Pansy isn't much taller than me." I glared, jokingly at him.

"But Pansy didn't steal my muffin," he grinned.

I laughed and took a bite out of my muffin.

"What do you have first?" I asked no one in particular.

"We have arithmancy, right?" Theo asked me.

I nodded at him as Pansy and Blaise said they had a free period and then divination.

"We had better get going then," I said to Theo closing my book. "We need to collect our bags and I need to actually put my robe on."

We passed Malfoy on the way out. He was making fun of Harry, who had fainted on the train last night when the dementors had boarded.

"You're one to talk, Malfoy, you were practically shitting yourself, sitting in Crabbe's lap when they went past our compartment." I smirked.

He went bright red but we walked out of the hall before he could reply.

It wasn't long until we were gathering outside to head to Care of Magical Creatures.

Hagrid was waiting for his class at the door of his hut. He stood in his moleskin overcoat, with Fang the boarhound at his heels, looking impatient to start.

"C'mon, now, get a move on!" he called as the class approached. "Got a real treat for yeh today! Great lesson comin' up! Everyone here? Right, follow me!"

I walked with Ophelia and Hermione who seemed to be in a mood with Ron. No surprises there.

Hagrid strolled off around the edge of the trees, and five minutes later, we found ourselves outside a kind of paddock. There was nothing in there.

"Everyone gather 'round the fence here!" he called. "That's it -- make sure yeh can see -- now, firs' thing yeh'll want ter do is open yer books --"

"How?" said the cold, drawling voice of Draco Malfoy.

"Eh?" said Hagrid.

"How do we open our books?" Malfoy repeated. He took out his copy of The Monster Book of Monsters, which he had bound shut with a length of rope. My own book had been wrapped with a scarf that I wasn't much a fan of.
