After the disastrous Quidditch match, the rest of the week went pretty smoothly, besides Malfoys wonderfully annoying interpertations of Harry falling off his broom. While it got laughs every time from Crabbe and Goyle it had even gotten old with the rest of the school. During potions, Ron cracked and flung a huge crocodile heart at Malfoy, which hit him square in the face and creating a beautiful sight that I'll never forget.
This did mean that Quidditch practices were back on though to prepare for our next match against Ravenclaw which would take place just before Christmas break which was already fast approaching. Practising as a beater essentially meant target practice while flying and against moving targets and practising our swings to strengthen our hitting arm. So pretty easy, the other Slytherin beater was a huge guy, Lucian Bole, who was pretty silent for the most part but I suspected he didn't particularly like me. Not that a lot of the team particularly liked me but I was the best beater in the group that applied by a long shot so they were stuck with me.
Pansy and Theo would sometimes watch our practices, Pansy to be supportive and Theo because he liked to take pictures of the flying. Occasionally Blaise would show up too but usually he preferred to stay in the warmth especially since it was only just under a week until the end of term and had started to get frosty around the grounds.
Today it was just Pansy who watched me practise and after we decided to warm up in front of the fire with hot chocolate, fluffy socks and unfortunately some school work. Luckily, Professor Lupin had decided that the essay on werewolves was unnecessary and we'd had a nice lesson on Hinkypunks but I still had some arithmancy which was possibly the hardest subject that I took. it was just like maths which I had thought I escaped when I joined the wizarding world.
We ended up giving up and heading down to dinner which had Christmas decorations starting to go up with holly lining the pillars and a huge Christmas tree in the main entrance. Most of the students were discussing their holiday plans and we were no exception.
"We're going to our holiday home in France for the holidays which is just dreadful." Blaise was complaining after reading a letter from his mum.
"How in Merlin's name is a fancy holiday in France dreadful?" I exclaimed in disbelief. "That sounds amazing!"
"It's just me, my mum and her new husband." Blaise sighed, "I'm going to be cut off from everyone and stuck with him and he's awful."
"I'm sure you'll be able to cope," I said rolling my eyes, "Am I the only one staying at Hogwarts this year then?"
Hermione asked me to stay for the holidays with her, Harry and Ron due to the fact that they didn't want to leave Harry at hogwarts on his own but she also didn't want to be outnumbered by the boys.
"Uh yeah, My family has been invited to Malfoy's for Christmas - " Theo started.
"Oh yeah, Mine too." cuts in Pansy. "Our families do Chistmases together quite often and this year its the Malfoy's turn to host."
"Staying here is definitely better than spending an entire two weeks with him and his family," I say, shuddering. "At least here, I can get away."
"Oh come on, he's not that bad." Theo rolls his eyes, as if I'm being dramatic. Pansy and Blaise both nod, agreeing with him.
"Maybe not to you guys, but you're all Pureblood's. I'm a lowly Muggleborn, remeber?" I huff. "He won't let me forget that."
They start to look shame-faced and I rush to reassure them that they're not responsible for his actions and upbringing and that I'm just glad that they don't act the same.
