The letter came two weeks before my birthday. The letter that changed everything.
My birthday, the 31st of August, was supposed to be the day I go to live with my aunt in France. Until the letter came.
It was the middle of August and I had woken up to the smell of burning. Dad.
Grumbling, I moved the book I had fallen asleep reading and pulled on some comfy shorts and an oversized green jumper.
He had burnt the bacon.
"Dad, when it gets crispy your supposed to take it off the stove." I pulled the pan off and dumped the bacon in the bin, grabbing two new slices.
"Good morning to you too." He replied, a tea in hand and a grin on his face.
"Sweetheart, that tea better be for me," I turned around to see my mum in the doorway with a tired look on her face and dressed in pyjama bottoms and a hoodie
For me and mum, Saturdays were always the lazy days whereas dad always looked smart. No matter what.
"Of course, honey." Dad handed the cup of tea over and started making another.
"Can I have one?" I asked. "You know how I like it."
Dad sighed but pulled another mug out of the cupboard anyway.
That was when the knock at the door came.
I took the bacon off the stove as my mum went to open the door, I could hear muffled talking and then my mum called my dad into the hall.
Frowning, I peeked through the doorway, eating my bacon.
Standing in the hall was a tall woman with a very tight bun wearing a long green dress cloak thing. She held a very large pointy hat and a letter. My parents and her were talking, too quietly for me to hear although I caught some things like "Cassandra" and "school".
I quickly dodged back into the kitchen before they saw me and swallowed my bite of bacon.
"Cassie?" I turned to see my dad in the hallway looking very harassed. "Would you join us in the sitting room?"
I nodded and followed him to our living room.
In the armchair, by the fireplace, sat the oddly dressed woman from the hallway.
I greeted her shyly and awkwardly sat in between my mum and dad on the sofa.
"Good morning, Miss Daniels," Even her voice sounded uptight. "I am Professor McGonagall."
"I- err...Good Morning..." My dad squeezed my hand in reassurance.
"I am here to inform you that you are a witch." She said it so bluntly and straightforward that all I could do was gape at her.
"I- i- i'm sorry, what?" It was physically impossible for my eyes to widen any further.
I turned to look at my parents who both nodded reassuringly. Surely they should be more surprised right now?
"I understand this is a lot to take in," She smiled warmly at me. "but have you ever been able to do things you shouldn't, things normal people couldn't do?"
I thought back. Well I mean, one time I made a padlock shatter on a gate, running from a scary dog. Oh, and another time I made a branch fall on a guy's head who was pointing a stick at me.
"I guess so," I said frowning, "But I didn't mean to, it was an accident."
"I'm here to tell you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry where you will be able to learn all about your magic." She offered me a letter. A very official looking letter.
I took the letter and turned it over. It was addressed to a Miss Cassandra Grace Daniels and on the other side there was a wax seal with a badger, lion, snake and an eagle.
I opened the envelope carefully, trying not to break the wax.

A/N - Hey guys, welcome to the first chapter. It's quite short but I needed to start somewhere honestly. I do hope you enjoy it although the first few chapters are just Diagon Alley and getting to Hogwarts. I didn't want to skip over these parts as they are some of my favourite scenes.
