9: Selfies on Mars

A/N sooo this is a hopefully really fluffy chapter, since a lot of the past ones have been, y'know, really descriptive and emotional and all that xD anyway imma actually get on with it now, enjoy chapter 9! <33

The Doctor's POV

The TARDIS had landed on Mars, and after checking it for Ice Warrior Hives, we decided it was safe to visit.

I clasped my hand around Rose's, grinning at her like a little kid. I shouldn't be in love with a human - if the Time Lords were still around, I'd be thrown into prison for the rest of my regenerations. But they're not here, and I'm the last Time Lord. So I can do whatever the hell I want, right?

Mars is a beautiful planet - silent and dark, lit only by the golden rays of the distant sun. Rose and I walk, hand in hand, down the planet, and soon we find ourselves lying side by side, looking out into space.

As we watch intently, silently, the deep, quiet dark watches us back, the glint of stars like little diamonds lighting up the ink dark sky.

Taking a piece of paper from her pocket, Rose begins to write something. I look over her shoulder and see that it is Circular Gallifreyan. I smile at her concentrating face and shaky hand.

A few minutes later, she hands me the paper. My adjusted eyes immediately understand the words she has written, forming intricate designs and shapes.

It reads, I love you.

With a blush and shy smile, I kiss her on the cheek and tuck a lock of blonde hair behind her ear. 'I love you too, my Rose.'

She pulls out her phone and turns it into the camera--Rose made me buy a new one to 'keep up with the trends'. 'Let's take some selfies,' she laughs.

My face scrunches up in confusion. 'A sell-fy? What's that?!'

Rose rolls her eyes. 'A selfie. It's basically a picture of yourself.' She changes the camera angle to face us. 'Get in the frame, come on!'

I move my face closer to hers till we are pressed together, grinning like two mad people. Rose takes a few photos then changes the pose, her arm around me. Suddenly I feel an urge to kiss her, so I spin my head to kiss her cheek and we get a cute picture of us: her laughing and me with my lips pressed to her cheek.

'I never thought I'd be taking selfies on Mars,' says Rose, laughing as she puts her phone back in her pocket.

'It is definitely a unique experience,' I agree. I look up at Rose and smile. I whisper, 'I love you,' and I feel happier than ever in my life.

Nothing matters any more. Just our lips together, and the fireworks in the back of my mind.
