Kao's POV

Before my conversation with Mrs. Namwirote ended, she had assured me that she would get back to me as soon as she could.

I waited for a good three hours before my phone rang.

But it was not Mrs. Namwirote calling me.

It was Cooheart!!!

I quickly swiped my phone to the right.

"Hello?" my voice was merely above a whisper because my heart was pounding so hard and fast that I could hardly breathe.

"Where are you?" I heard Cooheart's tearful voice.

"I'm at home but I can pick you up wherever you are." I offered, my heart in my throat.

"No, stay where you are," I heard Cooheart say. "I'm on the road right now at a traffic stop that's why I could quickly call you. Text me your address and I will place it into my GPS."

I quickly texted Cooheart my address. My fingers were trembling so much that I could hardly input my address correctly.

"Did you get it?" I asked Cooheart after a while.

"Yes, I did," Cooheart replied. "I'm gonna drive into a shoulder by the roadside and stop my car so that I can input your address safely into my GPS without getting stopped by a traffic officer for distracted driving.

With those words my phone went blank, meaning that Cooheart had cut the call.

I could not do anything after the call ended. I was walking up and down all around my house like a nervous cricket.

After an eternity of waiting, I heard a soft honk outside my house.

I peeked through my window.

Cooheart's car was parked on my driveway right behind my own car.

I rushed out of the house and ran to meet Cooheart.

His arms were outstretched towards me, his face looking tearful.

I ran into his waiting arms and we hugged each other like there was no tomorrow.

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart," I heard him saying into my chest because he had buried his face into my chest. "I'm so sorry for treating you so badly."

"Shh," I said. "Don't feel sorry about anything. The important thing is that we are together again."

We continued to hug and then I broke the hug to ask, "Did mom come to see you at your unit?"

I pretended not to know about his mom's and my earlier conversation.

"She did!" Cooheart's voice was tearful again.

"And then what happened?" I asked, still pretending not to know about his mom's and my conversation.

"At first she tried to force Santa out of my unit," Cooheart started to say.

The name 'Santa' made my hackles rise right away.

"And then what happened," I urged Cooheart to continue his story.

"During my argument with my mom, I found out that Santa had been employed by his brother who owns a tourist transportation company. Then I found out that he knows all about bookkeeping because he is studying to be a certified public accountant," Cooheart tried to explain but I couldn't see how that had to do with him returning to me.

"And then what happened?" I was still confused about the turn of events.

"I broke up with him," Cooheart replied simply.

"Because?" I prompted.

"Because he's going to be like my Uncle Jimmy who is rolling in riches and is surrounded by all the lovely women he wants, leaving his wife sad and lonely in their large mansion," Cooheart said even more tearfully. "And I don't want the same thing to happen to me!!!"

"Absolutely," I agreed, "You don't want such a thing to happen to you."

"I would never do such a thing to you," I added for the clincher."

Cooheart nodded tearfully and gave me another hug.

I hugged him back happily.

"Let's go inside the house," I urged Cooheart. "Have you had any lunch yet?"

"No, Santa was cooking..." Cooheart started to say, and then trailed off, looking at me anxiously.

"It's okay," I assured him. "The important thing is that you are here with me now."

"C'mon, sweetheart, let me cook a delicious lunch for you," I said.

"I can help you prepare the ingredients," my sweetheart offered.

"Sure!" I said with a happy smile as I led Cooheart inside my house and straight into my kitchen.

"What are you planning to cook?" Santa asked eagerly.

"Beef teriyaki with soybean sprouts," I announced.

"That sounds amazing!" Cooheart cooed beside me.

I took out all the necessary ingredients from the refrigerator and freezer and soon we were lost and focused in our activity.

When everything was ready and laid out on the table, I said to Cooheart, "Let me eat you first."
