"See?" Charles said as he paused to catch his breath. "I told you we could make it... if you just gave a little effort."
Sasha took a big swig of water from the canteen before handing it to her boyfriend, hoping the sweat beading her face didn't betray her exhaustion. She was not used to this level of exercising, especially not in this heat.
But as she watched Charles's take a triumphant swig from the canteen, she had to admit he'd had a point in bringing her up here. Hot as it was, there was a certain majesty to the view, a feeling of accomplishment that made the burning her legs easier to bear. She pulled Charles's arm down and wrapped it around her shoulder, entwining her fingers with his as she looked off into the distance.
"Think we got enough water to climb that mountain over there?" she asked.
Charles drew Sasha in tight, and they both grinned as they set off.
