Victor loved Tanya, but honestly, she perplexed him. A month into their relationship, and she began hiding in the oversized school jacket that hung from his wide shoulders, wrapping the green fabric around herself so only her shapely legs and skirt could be seen sticking out. People would whisper and laugh as the couple walked by, but more and more, Victor came to find Tanya's love of snuggling in his clothes endearing.
That still didn't mean he understood it. Victor asked Tanya repeatedly, but she would only give him a coy look and say, "just getting some shade, tall boy."
It was only years later, once they were married, that Victor understood why Tanya did it. From the very beginning, she had seen him not as a freaky giant like his peers, but as a kind and loyal protector who would shield her from all the bad things in the world. He was her tall boy, and she was his shortie.
And that was all they needed.
