chapter three - everyday is like a battle

" Ready to lose, sunshine? "

***

For the next few days Y/n had to be Percy's babysitter and personal guide around the camp. She wasn't very pleased about it. He had an attitude, an annoying level of sarcasm, and he was arrogant.

She had to give him lessons on Ancient Greek every morning and proved him right when he could read it much easier than he could english.

As one of the best archers in camp, she also had to give him archery lessons. They weren't going very well.

"Jackson the way your bow is pointed is going to make your arrow hit a campers head!" She said from behind him after smacking his head very hard.

"I'd really wish you'd stop doing that." He lowered the bow and glared at her from over his shoulder.

She smirked evilly and smacked it again. "Not gonna happen, drool boy."

He closed his eyes in annoyance and sighed. "Just teach me how to use a bow." He urged, "Please."

Y/n shook her head and took the bow out of his hands walking backwards and getting into a stance. "Come here."

He quickly listened and jogged to where she was standing. He was so close to her side that she could feel his breathing on her neck.

"Your index finger on the string hand has to be at the crease of your lips," she said, doing what she had instructed, "Then you have to align your bow hand to the center of the target." He was so close to her she barely had room to breathe or move. It was intimidating and she didn't like it.

She let go of the of the string and watched as the arrow cut through the air and hit the middle of the bullseye perfectly.

His eyebrows raised in admiration. She was just able to do that with barely any effort.

"Do you ever miss?" He said desperately.

"No, of course not." She shrugged her shoulders and smiled innocently. She grabbed another arrow and handed it and the bow over to Percy. He grabbed it and copied her previous stance.

She walked behind him and corrected his position. She kicked his foot back since it was too forward raised his chin and fixed his string hand so it aligned with his lip crease.

"Now align your bow hand to the target." He was a bit off so she put her hand over his and adjusted it. He looked down at her hand placement and his breath hitched. Percy had never really had any interactions with girls before. At least ones that didn't involve Nancy Bobofit getting him into trouble and bullying him. No. This was different. He actually liked having Y/n around. Sure she was a pain in the ass but she also saw him. She acknowledged him and made him feel seen and understood. They barely had that many interactions but he could tell she was a good person with great spirit. And not to mention she was beautiful. As previously said, he didn't have many interactions with girls, and Y/n, well she was one of the prettiest girls he had ever seen, if not the prettiest.
