Alone

I looked around the room through my blurry eyes.

Almost everyone in town was crowded into my living room. But I just wanted to be alone. So many people kept coming up to me, giving me their sympathetic smiles. Or telling me everything is alright. Nothing was alright. My family just died. I wanted everyone to leave. All I wanted to do was lock myself in my room and cry.

"Its okay Alexa. You can just leave." Luke whispered to me

I nodded.

"Go on.." he urged

"Can you come with me?" I asked, my voice barely audiable.

"Sure thing, Alex." he took my hand and I lead him outside to the porch

I opened the glass door and stepped out into the beautiful white snow. But I couldn't help but think that somewhere the snow isn't white but instead red with blood and black with gas exhaust.

"Luke..." my voice broke

"Let it all out, Lex. Its okay."

I just started sobbing for the hundredth time in the past 2 hours.

Luke pulled me into a hug, "Let it out, Alexa. Let it out." he whispered

"They're gone Luke! Gone!" I sobbed into his jacket

"Not forever." he whispered

I pushed myself away from him.

"Yes forever! They are dead! Dead, Luke! As in never breathing again!" I yelled.

Tears were streaming down my face.

"Don't say that." Luke said looking down. I could see that he was about to cry too.

"But its true." I whimpered

The glass door creaked open.

There, standing in the doorway was Connor, Matthew, Brian, Jessica, and Anna.

"Baby." Anna cried

I walked over to Anna's outstreached arms. Soon, I could feel everyone pileing in around me.

"Alex, I'm not going to say it's gonna be alright cause its not. You're family just died-" Connor started

"Connor!" Jessie scolded

"Its okay Jessie. Let him finish." I mumbled from underneath the dog pile

"As I was saying, Its not alright. Everyone here knows that. We're not gonna sit around here and tell you how everything will end up great. But we will tell you one thing; Alexa, we will always be here for you. No matter what. Every single one of us will til the day we die. We're gonna help you get through this. We're gonna deal with this together. Okay?"

There was a chorus of 'Preach it Connor', 'He's right', and 'Don't worry' s.

"Thanks so much guys." I wiped a half frozen tear off my cheek

The glass door creaked again.

"Hey, kids, its cold out here. Y'all should come inside." the voice of Mrs. Jones softly instructed

We all nodded.

"Alex? Could you stay out here a minute, though?" she asked

My friends all reluctantly let go of me and made their way indoors.

"Yes Stephanie?" I asked

"Alex do you have any relatives?" she asked

I nodded, "My uncle, Brandon. But he's in the army and he's currently in Iran."
