I was mesmerized by the sleeping beauty in my arms. The entire walk out of this wretched house, my eyes never once strayed from her form. Theo and I were still in shock at the feeling of our little mate in our arms. and I knew in this moment that I would do anything for her and protect her at all costs. Never again will she have to worry. I promise little mate I will spend every day of the rest of my life taking care of you. The fireworks bursting underneath my skin never dulled, but seemed to only grow stronger the longer she was in my arms. I committed every line, curve, and freckle on her beautiful face to memory. As we stepped off the front porch, her hair and her skin seemed to glow under the moonlight making her look even more alluring.  I ached for her to open her eyes so I could look into those bright green orbs of hers. I still can't believe how incredibly beautiful my little mate is.

I attempted to enter the car as smoothly as possible, but she must have felt my movement, causing her to stir slightly in her sleep. My heartbeat quickened at the thought of our mate waking. Theo and I both ached to finally have an interaction with our mate, after eight long years of waiting. However, much to my surprise, she never awoke, and only nestled her soft face into my chest. I didn't know that one little action could have such a large effect on me. I felt my chest burst with excitement. She can feel the sparks too. I cradled her body even closer to me, hoping the sparks would dull the pain she was in.

Now that she was finally safe, I forced myself to finally look at her injuries. Her wrists were red and inflamed with small scratches and puncture wounds where the barbed wire was. My shirt was soaked in blood from the cut on her arm and her leg. At the sight of her injuries, I felt Theo stir underneath my muscles. But that was nothing compared to the sharp pain in my chest like I had been stabbed with a knife. I couldnt bear to see my mate in pain. I dipped my head down to her forehead, gently placing my lips upon it, amazed that I could even feel the sparks in my lips. I envisioned the pain leaving her body and entering mine in a futile attempt to alleviate her pain.

Movement from the front seat caught my attention and I looked up to Marcus with a shirt in his outstretched hand. I silently took it from him and immediately ripped a strip of it off and tied it tightly around her thigh. I ripped the second strip of fabric and did the same thing to the cut on her bicep. Satisfied that her bleeding will stop, I lightly traced my fingertips over her cheekbone toward her hairline to push the stray hairs behind her ear. The sparks underneath my fingertips seemed to help her pain a little as I saw her face relax into a deeper sleep. I continued to lightly trace her cheekbone with my thumb hoping she could finally have some peace after the hell of the past few days.

I was pulled from the trance my little made had me in when I felt the SUV shift hardly into the park. Tearing my eyes away from Jennifer to look up, I was dissatisfied with the sight in front of me. A hospital. Theo and I were both fighting our anger at having to let go of Jennifer. I wanted to hold her for the rest of forever and never let her go. The only place she will ever truly be safe is in my arms. Taking one more look at our mate, I realized how selfish I was being. Her face was contorted in pain once again and the crimson red of her blood was peaking through the ripped cloth in small patches.

Sighing as I lifted her up slightly to get out of the car, I walked with determination toward the hospital, with Marcus and Agent Scott a few steps in front of me. I was thankful to the group of medical staff ready at the door with a gurney. The second I placed Jennifer down on the gurney, they immediately rolled her out of my sight through a set of unpleasant double doors. Now that Jennifer was no longer in my arms, the sparks quickly faded leaving a sharp emptiness within me. The emptiness seemed to travel quickly filling the deep recesses of my body and even seemed to sprout out of my feet, grounding me in place. I stared down the hallway where my mate was wheeled away from me, utterly lost. For the first time in my life, I was unsure of my next move.
