Hours passed as night started to settle in, Charlotte was fast asleep next to Katerina. Who was also trying to sleep but the blistering cold of night wouldn't let her. A few minutes passed as the girl shivered in her spot until a piece of fabric was thrown aggressively at her, hitting her face.
"What the hell Blake." Kate picks up the jacket thrown at her.
"Just take it and shut up. It's yours anyways." He says not even bothering to open his eyes as his head rests against the stone wall of the freezing cave. Kate rolled her eyes as she took the jacket putting it on, instantly feeling warmer. The new scent the jacket carried was also comforting to Kate, though she would never admit it.
Now both girls slept peacefully in their side of the cave, while Bellamy stayed up, wanting to stay awake to make sure nothing happened. He found himself looking at Kate multiple times during his 'lookout '. He liked how peaceful she looked while she slept in his jacket. She looked like the sweet girl he had met the first day on the ground. The girl that was too afraid to step off the ramp in fear this would all be a dream. The little ray of sunshine.
By the 4th time he caught his eyes wandering back to her he decided to just look at her. Admire every detail that made her, her. The way her dark hair fell into effortless waves around her face, or how her tan skin seemed to shine in the sun. And her eyes, Bellamy thought he could get lost in her forest green eyes. They were the most beautiful color he had ever seen. And how he loved the way her eyes narrowed when she was mad or annoyed. It was hard not to admire her while her watercolor eyes darkened in threat. And those lips. Her permanently rosy lips, which he found himself stealing glances at way too often. How he wished to steal a kiss or two, to feel her soft lips against his.
His admiring was soon disturbed by Charlotte's loud scream, waking Katerina up immediately. Bellamy was too slow to look away as Kate's eyes met Bellamy's. She quickly brushed it off as she looked to her side to see Charlotte whimpering in her sleep. She went to stand up to walk towards Charlotte and wake her up, but Bellamy beat her to it. Already up and walking towards her, crouching down in front of the girl as he shook her awake gently.
"Charlotte, wake up."
"I'm sorry." the girl instinctively answered as she woke up. Kate stayed back watching how Bellamy interacted with the kid.
"Does that happen often?.. What are you scared of?" Bellamy asked gently, but Charlotte stayed quiet. Looking down embarrassed. Bellamy shook his head as he moved closer, sitting in between Kate and Charlotte. "You know what? It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what you do about it." Charlotte looked at him confused, not understanding.
"But...I'm asleep."
"Fears are fears. Slay your demons when you're awake, they won't be there to get you when you sleep."
"Yeah, but how?"
"You can't afford to be weak. Down here weakness is death, fear is death...let me see that knife I gave you." Charlotte grabbed the knife from one of her pockets showing it to Bellamy. Katerina's eyes narrowed in confusion as she looked at the both of them. "Now when you feel afraid, you hold on to that knife and say 'Screw you. Im not afraid.' "
