"what happened with you and mike?" will asked as he sat on eleven's bed with her. "well, we talked, he told me that he didn't deserve me, that i was too good for someone like him." she sighed, her eyes drifting around the new room. "he said... he wanted to be friends... at least i until i learned more about myself, and what i like." she sighed, standing up and picking up the small radio she kept in her room. "he said i need to understand my self worth before committing to being with him." she finished, starting to change the channels slowly.
"i agree, i mean, you're a badass." nathan said as he entered her room, tucking a cigarette bud into his pocket. "you've been with mike for the majority of the time you've been out of the lab, you deserve some time to figure out who you are." he finished, before sitting next to will.
"how do i know who i am?" she asked, sitting next to the couple once she found a station playing a madonna song. "well, you start with things you like. i like breaking rules, rock music, scary movies, stuff like that." nathan began, before turning to look down at his boyfriend. "i like art, rock music, boys." will laughed softly, shaking his head. "you find things you like, and you ask yourself deep questions. like what do you wanna be when you grow up? where do you see yourself in five, ten years? would you rather date the first guy you ever dated for the rest of your life or go on dates with people and learn what you like?" nathan explained, shrugging slightly.
"where'd you learn all of this?" will asked with a laugh. "my mom keeps self help books. when you're like me and learning how to be a person, they're really helpful." nathan muttered, suddenly embarrassed. "like me?" she asked softly, confusion contorting her face.
"i have autism. it means my brain works differently from your brain and from will's brain, instead of knowing things like how to express my emotions, things that seem like second nature to you guys, i had to learn that. i had to learn how to talk to people, how people act when they talk, all sorts of stuff because i wasn't wired to think the way you guys do." he shrugged, unwilling to make eye contact as he spoke. "my mom always said i was a freak because of it."
"we're all freaks. it makes us special." eleven said slowly, trying to reassure him. "some people want to be normal, el. we can't help it." he shook his head slowly.

"nathan?" will muttered groggily as he sat up in bed, nathan stood in the middle of the room, his back to will. "nate?" will repeated, climbing out of bed. he turned the light on and stood in front of nathan, who's eyes were white.
will was quick to push the queen album into the stereo on his dresser, turning the volume up as "death on two legs" filled the room. he quickly fast forwarded the album, "you're my best friend" playing loudly while he tried talking to nathan, who - about halfway into the song, began blinking furiously and shaking his head.
"what's with the noise?" joyce complained as she entered the room to see the teens sobbing in each other's arms. "vecna." eleven breathed out, having also left her room from the noise. "vecna?" joyce asked, turning to face the teen girl. "yes... he took max... did he try to take one of them?" she asked softly, causing joyce to tear up.
"boys." she sobbed as she entered will's room, wrapping her arms around both of them. she had grown to love nathan, and had loved will ever since he was born, so the prospect of either of them being in danger broke her heart.
"he tried to take me." nathan sobbed, his head pressed into the crook of will's neck, despite their height difference.
