nathan wrapped his arm around the back of will's seat, earning a blush from the shorter boy. at this point they were the only two in the car - after dropping off the rest of the party at their respective houses. "kasey put a lot of work into her character." will marveled, a smile on his face. "yeah? i saw the drawing, but i didn't really see anything else." nathan gave a soft smile, his eyes focused on the road. "she had like ten pages of his backstory, a backstory of how he got his hammer, everything was there. it was almost like she was writing a book for him." will explained, leaning his head on the foggy window. "she may be a freshman, but she is one of the coolest people i've met." he giggled, a smile on his face.
"is she cooler than me?" nathan asked with a bit of fake hurt in his voice. "no, nobody's cooler than you." will replied softly. "not true, el is so much cooler than me." nathan shook his head, before parking in front of will's house. "do you think your mom would mind me staying over?" he asked softly, turning to face will. "i don't care if she minds or not, i'll sneak you in the window if i have to." he laughed before climbing out of the car into the freezing january air.
"will? honey is that you?" joyce called out from the kitchen. "yeah! it's nate and i." he called back, holding onto his boyfriend's hand. "oh! nate it's late, what are you doing here?" she asked as she walked into the living room. "i was gonna stay over, if that's alright with you?" nathan asked, a soft smile on his face. "absolutely, of course!" she nodded her head.

"rough night, nate?" dustin teased as he climbed into the backseat. "yeah, will's bed is so fucking small but somebody had to protect him." nathan replied, before giving will a soft smile. "why not stay at your house?" dustin asked, a confused look on his face. the couple in the front both stiffened at the mention of nathan's house. "my mom had the day off..." he muttered, before driving towards lucas's house. "anyways, kasey's kind of cute isn't she?" dustin asked, a smile on his face. "aren't you a little old to have a crush on a freshman? and what about suzie?" will turned to face his friend, a confused look on his face. "well i'm not into her, but you looked really into her is all." dustin's eyebrows raised as the car came to a stop. "no, no dustin. she put a lot of effort into her character and it was really interesting to me, that's it." will insisted as lucas climbed into the car. "will's not into people like kasey." he explained as he took his seat in the car. "will's not into anybody, it seems." dustin sighed as he leaned back. at this, nathan snorted.
"what do you know that we don't?" dustin and lucas asked together. "do you wanna tell them about your crush?" nathan asked, glancing at will before coming to a stop in front of mike's house. "i- uh- you guys have to promise to not get mad at me." will requested as mike climbed into his seat. "why would we get mad?" he asked, looking at the car's inhabitants. "well, you won't, mike, but i don't know if they will..."
"will, if it's about the gay thing, nobody really cares. like, sure, some people are homophobic, but we aren't." dustin shrugged, a smile on his face. "how'd you know?!" will gasped, covering his mouth with his hand. "i told you they would be chill." nathan muttered, gently grabbing will's hand. "that's a plot twist for sure." lucas shook his head, a laugh escaping his lips.
"really? i'm the only one who saw that coming?" mike asked, his eyebrows furrowing. "no, i figured they would end up together, i mean they loved it and there's so much gay subtext in that, i figured it was only a matter of time." dustin shrugged, his eyes wandering across the snow covered land of their hometown.
"it doesn't have gay subtext, it's a horror book." lucas argued, earning a snort from everyone around him. "can only gay people see that? is that why i'm not seeing any of that shit?" he asked, earning a laugh from his friends. "can only virgins see this shit?" will mocked what he imagined richie would sound like. "why does that just sound like mike before he hit puberty?" dustin cackled.
