twenty five

she was cradled in her mother's arms

her daddy smiling to his ears

she took her first steps, stumbling,

but getting up to try one more time

she walked into preschool

her eyes welling up as she left her mother

she got ready for kindergarten

and then for middle school

she started to grow up

to feel like she belonged somewhere

she searched for her hobbies

what she liked and what she didn't

she made friends

made it to high school

she was through the sadness

the tears, the puberty

she opened the doors to a new life

found herself busier than ever

some days good, some bad,

some worse than others

but she worked hard

through them and put forth the effort

she was heartbroken

and she was more torn apart than ever

and there comes a time

in everyone's lives

when they fall so hard

they think they'll never get up

but that's what separates

winners and losers

winners, like her,

stand, fall, and get up again

she went to college

she got a job

she found true love

she got married

and one day, instead of being the baby,

she was the mother cradling her own daughter

she fought through the battles

and she won the war

make sure you live to see it

because it's worth it
