The backyard was our favorite place. The treehouse was our castle, the lawn was our ocean, the patio was our ship. The backyard was where dreams came alive.

Two years ago, he moved away. The backyard became my own. The castle, ocean and ship are gone so all I have left is an empty lawn and an old treehouse.

I sit on the patio now, staring at my backyard. Why do we have to grow up so fast? When my best friend moved away, I felt like a part of me left too.

"Kara?"

She turns to look at me and her eyes widen. Her jaw drops and tears form in her eyes.

Two years ago, this backyard was my favorite place. We had so many adventures and made so many memories. Two years ago, my life changed and I was forced to face a new environment and make new friends.

But no one can ever compare to Kara. She stands now, smiling at me. I give her a hug and smile.

Hundreds of miles. Hours of driving. To be back home in this backyard of imagination.

"Still best friends?" She asks, hope in her eyes. "Still best friends." I reply. She smiles wider and takes my hand. "Let's go on another  adventure."

We walk onto the grass of our favorite backyard.
