I dance along to High School Musical, taking this chance to go back to more nostalgic songs as I pack these boxes and clean up my room.
I sing at the top of my lungs as I find myself in the exact position Gabriella was in.
Moving.
"Just walk away." I whisper, staring out the window and at the moving trucks.
Someone knocks at the already open door and I smile to myself.
"It's the start of something new, it feels so right to be here with you." He sings as he walks towards me.
He pulls me into a bear hug and I feel his fast heart beat under my palm. He breathes slowly and it takes a while before he lets me go.
"I don't want you to go. But I know this'll be the start of something new. For you and for us." He says, a brave smile on his face.
I smile back and we continue packing up my stuff.
We leave tomorrow but for today, my parents gave us the whole day to ourselves.
After finishing the last things, he takes my hand and guides me downstairs to the basement where we had all our movie dates.
"One last movie date?" I ask, an excited smile creeping onto my face.
He nods and fixes everything up, including the food.
We watch two movies, the day passing by too fast. My head's on his chest and his arm is firmly wrapped around me.
"It's two o' clock." I say. "Are we just going to stay here?"
I smile up at him and my heart nearly breaks at his yearning expression.
"Can we? Just stay here?" His arms get tighter around me and I know this'll be one of the last times we'll be together like this for a while.
We stay like this for a few minutes but eventually, he gets up and hurries upstairs, outside and to his car.
"What's gotten into you all of a sudden?" I ask with an amused laugh.
He shrugs and we drive off after saying goodbye to my parents.
He brings me to a diner and we get milkshakes and grilled cheese. After our late lunch, we go to the park. We stroll through the peaceful park, sharing earphones and humming along to our favorite songs.
He brings me to the ranch, one of our favorite places to spend time together.
I say goodbye to my favorite horse, Chestnut.
I say goodbye to everyone there and all the horses.
Once I walk outside to the hay stacks, I see a lonely cowboy sitting with a guitar.
He looks up at me and my heart wishes I could just take him with me.
His bright green eyes stare deep into mine and he starts singing.
"You've always been the one
the LSS song,
the one on my mind,
every day all the time.
When you came into my life
everything just seemed so right.
He brought you to me,
all the dreams and future yet to be
There are no words to say what I feel
no melody to sing this, what's real
Just know that wherever you go,
you're never truly alone.
You'll always be in my life, every part
and you'll always be the melody
the reminder that keeps me going,
the song in my heart."I'll miss his beautiful voice, our road trip duets and our shared playlists during family dinners and karaoke time.
I'll miss his presence, his strong and gentle hug, his caring eyes and warm smile.
"I'll miss you. So much." I whisper as tears gather in my eyes.
He stands and walks towards me, gathering me in his arms.
"Like I said. No matter where you are, you'll be the song in my heart." He buries his head against my neck. "Besides, with God at the center, we'll never be truly apart. I'll see you soon, love. Just keep singing our song."
