Her dragon!
Sat alone. No one wanted to play. Tsuyu had bandages on her knees and a few burns on her hands from cooking. Tsu was looking at everyone with the black dragon in her hands, they were pointing at her. She likes girls. No one wanted to hang out with someone who had an incurable sickness. She should've never opened her mouth..she should’ve kept her mouth shut. But she liked this girl..was she sick?
Tsu watched as everyone played but her, she looked down to her dragon and held it close. She was sick. She started to cry. What was wrong with her? Books and stories, shows and movies never showed a girl in love with another girl..so it only meant that she was sick or something was wrong with her. Was she able to be cured? Tsuyu didn’t understand why she felt this way, she didn’t understand why she couldn’t feel the same for any of the other boys in her class. She couldn’t tell her mom..anything but that. She was learning how to take care of her brother..she wanted to be just like her mom..she wanted a normal and good family. She always had a vision of a family...she loved it but it never felt right. Everytime she imagined loving a man it just felt forced, unnatural.
“Hey..why is she sitting all alone?”
“Oh, you haven’t heard? Her name is Tsuyu Asui, she likes girls..weird, huh?”
“Ew..makes sense, that’s not normal though..”
The girls kept whispering, Tsu’s mouth wobbled. She got up from her seat on the field, against the tree, and walked to the water fountains. Tsuyu pushed the button and she drank some water, she was the only one there so she sat under them. Poor Tsuyu began to cry, bringing her knees to her chest and burying her head into them. Her hands hurt and the bandage on her knee was peeling off. She sobbed as quietly as she could. She was scared. What’s wrong? What’s wrong? Tsuyu wished at night, more than anything, to get better. She was so frightened about being sick, about her parents telling her something truly awful. She didn’t want to talk to her parents, or the school, or the doctors in fear that something truly was wrong. Tsu stayed that way until the bell rang, she got up from her place on the floor quickly and rubbed her face clean. She went into the bathroom and aniffled, she washed her hands and walked back to her class.
Tsu was the first in her class to walk in. She took her seat, she had her light green rain coat on, along with the hood on top of her head. She had her boots on too, quickly replacing those for her inside shoes. Her teacher watched her closely as she put her hood down revealing two small braids with bows made out of her hair in the end. Tsu walked over to her desk and took a minute before she could sit comfortably in her chair because of her tail. Her teacher got up and walked to her.
Tsu watched the man as he approached. He crouched down in front of Tsu’s desk and took a deep breath. Tsu watched his face with her big sparkling eyes, she liked her teacher. He was nice and allowed her to help him with passing papers and organizing the room..well she stopped volunteering for that a few months ago. He talked to her,”So, I’ve been hearing your name quite often..how’re you feeling Froppy?”.
Tsu looked down and bit her tongue which was out the whole time. She grabbed at the end of her oversized rain coat and said, very timidly and quietly,”I-I’m sick..”. She began to cry, she kept repeating the words,”I’m sick, I’m sick, I'm sick..”.
“Hey, It’s okay, calm down. Why do you think you’re sick, Asui?”. Her teacher was as kind and soft as ever. He always understood and always listened when she described every food she was learning to make. He listened when she had hurt herself playing and when she was fussy, he never lost his temper. He was patient.
Asui shook her head and tried to talk,”I-I-I-” She couldn’t finish her sentence, she couldn’t get the words out. She was sick! She was sick and she knew it! Oh, but to hear that she was, the confirmation was too much for Tsu to handle! Her little heart was crying for someone to save her! The teacher shushed her and walked her through some breathing exercises. Tsu happily, or as happy as she could, followed her teacher. He practiced this until Tsu was only sniffling.
