"How's it going. Serrie?"
Yuki playfully jumped around and recently had taken a great interest in my relation with Zero. Every chance we would get, Yuki always made it happen. I'm not sure if Zero was aware of all this yet or not, but he had to at least know something. He wasn't stupid. He was pretty smart actually.
Now, I assisted in the Disciplinary Committee with Zero and Yuki, but not the night patrol. Zero felt that I would be safer just staying inside my dorm. Like I would ever listen. I would easily escape and avoid them. But Zero was right about one thing, I was scared of Vampires. Well, the Night Class I guess. Except for Kaname. I hated him, in many ways I could tell he wasn't ordinary. Why Yuki loved him, I don't know.
Yuki was still excitedly jumping around the place as I attempted to calm her down.
"It's going great. What's up?"
"Isn't it obvious?"
"The sky's up?"
"No, silly. The ball."
"Oh. That's right, well no one has asked me yet and I guess it might be embarrassing to go alone."
"What about Zero?"
"I don't even think he cares."
"Think again. Eventually, I'm going to get through to him."
"I'll be here and available."
"Available for what?"
I spun around as Zero came to us. Ever since Yuki and I had become friends, I started acting a bit more girlish and I spent more time on myself than I usually did. Overall, I remained the same in personality, in looks, I was just more than brush and go but not cosmetic overload. I blushed and hesitated for a moment since his presence sometimes made me nervous.
"Available after school to help with the Disciplinary Committee."
"I'm not entirely convinced, Serrie."
"Your reason for that is?"
"You never take part in boring conversations like that. I think I would know."
"Well, actually Zero. I was just reminding Serena about the ball that's coming up very soon. Are you going to go?"
Zero's shot open and he had the look of anxiety and surprise. A look that was pretty rare in his nature.
"I'm not sure. Are you guys going?"
"Not sure, if we can get ourselves a date. Right, Serena?'
"Uh...yeah."
We continued on to class and entered the classroom to sit in our usual seats. I sat between my dorm mate, Suki and my other friend, Aika. They weren't my close friends, but I liked them. They looked at me with the pasted stare of a porcelain doll.
"Yuki told us about you and Zero."
"She did?"
"Yeah. It's totally obvious he's going to ask you to the ball. He has eyes only for you."
"To be honest, guys. I think he likes Yuki more."
"No. He likes you."
"Suki. Zero likes Yuki."
"He likes you."
"No. He doesn't."
"Just admit it, Serena! You love him!"
Suki shouted out across the classroom and everyone looked up from their textbooks. Yuki's eyes looked worried and Zero was shocked. I guess it was because no one thought of me as the type to be involved. Suki sat down, hiding her face and I did the same, while everyone else started whispers and rumors were sure to be spread. Still, I watched Zero as he flipped through his books with sad eyes that had a delicate shine.
After class, I saw Yuki and Zero walk out without me and I followed them as close as I could without being caught. I had to overhear them. If this was Yuki's magic working, I had to see the how.
"Yuki. What did Suki mean about what she said earlier?"
"She meant that supposedly Serena loves someone."
"Do you know who?"
"It could be anyone here."
"Serrie's picky. She chooses only the most unusual people."
"That's true, all right."
"What does that mean?"
"She likes someone from....the Night Class."
"What? She hates Vampires. She could never do something like that."
"Could she, really? Zero. When was the last time she told you who she liked?"
"She's never said anything like that to me."
"Exactly! So you can't say that she might like the person you would probably love to kill."
"But... that's..."
"Kaname?"
"What about Kaname?"
I had to butt in. Otherwise, it would get ugly. So, now I had to pretend that I liked Kaname. But I hated him. But I guess he would have to do. Zero's eyes were filled with sadness and anger. They burned an intense silver shade.
"Yuki's asking Kaname to the dance. He's unavailable."
"Oh? Well then next time I guess. Are you asking anyone Zero?"
"If she'll ever be alone."
Zero turned away and walked off to the gate where the Night Class would soon come out through.
"Thank goodness. You heard it all, right?"
"Yes. Why Kaname?"
"First person in my mind."
"No kidding. Anyways, are you going to ask him?"
"Of course."
We proceeded to the gate where Zero waited for us. At my presence, he seemed joyed and angered all at once.
I'll also show you a sweet dream... Next night.
