Connor wakes up on his birthday and immediately sits up. Theres no sleeping in today. Streaks appear on people birthdays at midnight. Connor wasn't awake, he fell asleep a little before, but now he's up. It's the day he's been waiting for, the day he and Richie have been waiting for. He's been praying for that pink color to turn up, engraved in his wrist. Connor lifts up his left wrist first. Nothing. He lifts up his right wrist, which is wearing a very chunky bracelet Richie got him. He sighs, undoing the clasps of the bracelet. He slides it off and...
Green.
Connors eyes stay put, glued to the green color. Green? It's not even in the same color range. Connor sighs and closes his eyes, a tear falling down his cheek. Most of him knew it was coming. He saw the way Richie looked at him...and the way he looked at Eddie. He's always had a feeling it was Eddie. He just had hoped that maybe it wasn't Eddie. But it's fine. Everything will be fine.
He stands up from his bed and goes over to his dresser. He opens up his sock drawer and digs to the bottom. "Aha." He says. A bottle of hair-dye.
I have to do this he thinks. He's had it planned out since the day after Richies birthday when he found out that Richies streak is pink. He was going to use paint, but it wouldn't look engraved, like it was supposed to be there. So he decided on permanent hair dye. He would just re-apply it to his wrist when he needed to. So Connor undoes the bottle. He applies it onto his skin in a not so perfect line. Thank god streaks aren't all the same perfect line. He waits for it to dry. After awhile, he checks it out.
"Looks pretty legit." He says to himself with a smirk. He puts his bracelet back on his wrist over his real streak. He then gets ready for school and heads off.
Connor gets to the school and finds Richie and his other friends in the lobby...including Eddie. Richies holding a birthday gift for Connor, he looks nervous. Connor runs up to Richie, "I got it! Pink, just like yours!"
Richie gasps and hugs Connor tightly, "Let me see!"
Connor shows him the fake streak, trying not to let him touch it or examine it too much. Thankfully, Richie just looks for a second and smiles. Although he doesn't look that excited. Which makes sense, considering Connor isn't his real soulmate. Connor isn't even entirely sure how this is going to work. If Eddie is Richies soulmate, then he'll find out. But maybe Eddie isn't his soulmate. Maybe it's someone else, and if its someone else then Richie won't know unless he's looking, and he won't be looking if he thinks Connor is his soulmate. Maybe it'll work out. Maybe Richie will never find his real soulmate. Connor knows it's selfish of him, but he loves Richie, and he belongs with Richie. Maybe the universe screwed up. Maybe Connor and Richie will break history and something crazy will happen and they'll find out they really are soulmates. They'll be famous, for proving the world and the universe wrong. Maybe.
