"Hello, my name is Jeon Jungkook. I'd like to talk to the kindergarten director. Would this be possible?"
Admittedly, Jungkook has no talent for remembering names. But he's sure he has never heard the name "Kim Taehyung" before. The same goes for his voice, which oddly enough has an immediate calming effect on Jungkook. It's strange, since he usually makes phone conversations accompanied by a pounding heartbeat and nervous stuttering. But after hearing this deep voice, he feels the tension ease from his body.
"I'm sorry but the kindergarten director isn't here today. Maybe I can help you?"
Great. Jungkook doesn't feel like starting all over again and explaining the whole story of his move over the phone...whereas...actually, he doesn't feel like talking about his past at all, either over the phone or verbally. He tries to be brief to stay on the essential topic. Maybe the teacher won't ask too many unnecessary questions.
"I have an appointment tomorrow for a kindergarten visit. It's about a kindergarten place for my daughter, Jeon Yuna."
"Ah, now I know who you are."
"Oh, really?"
Seems like the single father has already been a topic of conversation among the teachers. Jungkook doesn't know what to think of this and tries to swallow the arising uncertainty. He doesn't like it when people talk about him. He can already imagine the pitying looks of numerous strangers. What no one understands is that it's precisely these looks that cause his stomach to contract convulsively. He doesn't want pity; he simply wants a decent kindergarten place for his daughter.
"Please, don't misunderstand me. The kindergarten director just informed me that we'll most likely get a new child in the group soon."
"That remains to be seen."
"Excuse me?"
Damn. Jungkook thought out loud and squeezes his eyes after realization.
"Nothing."
"Wait, I didn't even let you finish. I'm sorry about that. So, how may I help you?"
In fact, this Kim Taehyung sounds anything but pitiful. No, he makes a polite and friendly impression. If Jungkook doesn't want people to judge him too quickly, he shouldn't do the same. He shakes off the negative thoughts and comes back to the actual point.
"So, what I'm actually calling about is this: My daughter would like to attend the viewing tomorrow. Now I wanted to ask you, well...actually the director, if this could be possible."
"I don't think that should be a problem. Feel free to take her with you tomorrow. We're looking forward to meet you two."
Jungkook doesn't know what to make of that answer. Joy feels different, so he refrains from a lying "We're also looking forward to it." He decides to thank him politely and declare the conversation over. After all, he has no choice but to accept the answer.
"Thank you very much. I'll bring her with me tomorrow then. Have a nice day!"
"Thank you. I wish you the same."
Beep. Beep. Beep.
After this phone call, Jungkook looks thoughtfully at the phone for a few seconds, holding it vigorously with his right hand. He reviews the conversation, though it's not the content that keeps rolling over in his head. It's the sound of the deep voice that doesn't want to vanish from his mind. This teacher, Kim Taehyung, really has a beautiful voice.
[The next day]
Yuna's eyes sparkle as she looks out of the moving car and spots a huge rainbow in front of the kindergarten. A soft "wow" escapes her, causing the car window to fog up for a brief moment. Jungkook doesn't miss this symbol either, which clearly contrasts in color with the green meadow and the tall bushes around it.
