Jungkook has trouble suppressing his rising anger which is about to erupt. He can't stand this arrogant bastard. His annoying grin alone invites him to make acquaintance with Jungkook's fist. But he just manages to pull himself together.
"I don't care at all that the presentation has already started. I'm here to support Taehyung and I'm not going to let you stop me from doing that!"
Hyo-seop is surprised by the fact that Jungkook is already calling Taehyung by his first name. They seem to be closer than assumed and he doesn't like it at all.
"You want to support Taehyung so badly but then you're arriving 15 minutes too late? That doesn't add up front and center, Mr. Jeon. You would only upset him and cause unrest in the form of whispers among the parents."
Jungkook feels provoked by this statement but he doesn't feel like justifying his lateness. His private life is none of the kindergarten director's business.
No one could have known that the supermarket would be so busy and that the cash register system would crash due to a technical defect. Something like that always happens when he's in hurry. Since he was buying ingredients for his parents and not for himself, he couldn't just run off and leave everything behind. He tries to help Yuna's grandparents as often as possible. After all, they also always take loving care of his daughter.
"As a father, I have the right to attend this parent-teacher conference. And as the kindergarten director you should try to maintain a good relationship with the parents. Instead, you're making such a fuss here over 15 minutes. This is ridiculous."
"You could just listen to me and go home, Mr. Jeon. I wasn't the one starting this discussion."
"Asshole," Jungkook whispers, though he would have preferred to shout it out.
"Excuse me?" Hyo-seop asks bitterly.
"I hate to repeat myself, and that's why you should listen to me carefully right now. You may be the kindergarten director, but you also have a supervisor. I have no problem telling him in detail why I think you're totally incompetent as a kindergarten director."
After this statement, Hyo-seop has to swallow. Originally, he only wanted to intimidate Jungkook, but he completely misjudged him. He really didn't expect a threat. He licks his dry lips and looks at Jungkook, burning with anger.
"Don't disturb the presentation," Hyo-seop says in a huff, taking two steps to make room for Jungkook to pass.
"I never intended to do that."
Jungkook walks past him with a proud stride, accompanied by the cool summer wind blowing in through the open door. He can't shake the feeling that from the beginning, the kindergarten director wasn't concerned with the presentation, but with Taehyung.
When he enters the tiger room, it's completely silent for a few seconds. Taehyung's expression reveals that he's not upset about the "disturbance," but much more relieved that Jungkook showed up after all.
"Good evening. I apologize for the delay."
"Good evening," he gets in reply from all the unfamiliar parents. No signs of whispering.
The chairs are arranged in a semicircle around Taehyung. Only the two outermost ones are still empty. As Jungkook sits down, he quickly realizes that he has taken Hyo-seop's previous seat. It's still warm.
The kindergarten director enters the room just a few seconds later. For a brief moment, their cold gazes meet, but Jungkook doesn't even think about changing seats for him. Wordlessly, Hyo-seop sits down at the other end of the row of chairs and Jungkook is glad that he has finally disappeared from his view.
