It's moments like these where it's hard to believe that nature can be so cruel and unforgiving. The same force that gently rocks a canoe can mercilessly destroy a city. But in that moment, the element that (in another place and time) could be a howling wind swirling through a tundra, was a tender and delicate breeze.

Leli's nose scrunched as she squinted her eyes beneath the generous brim of a beige wicker sun hat. "You can have my glasses, if you'd like." Jimmy said from his place on the stern seat. His girlfriend laughed lightly in response, replying "No, Jimmy. I already took your hat."

The two were enjoying a lovely holiday in her native Northern Canada, Jimmy renting them one of those fancy aluminum canoes since they're supposed to the epitome of luxury among non-powered crafts. Lazing down a calm river with an abundance of fruit and a slight buzz sure was one hell of a way to escape from life's hardships.

"Yes, but I'm facing away from the sun." He slipped off his shades and held them out to Leli, who took them with a cheeky smile. Sitting portside, the edges of Jimmy's dark hair shone softly in the sunlight, giving him the appearance of an angel sent from heaven.

The smitten couple had concluded their rowing, now just sitting and enjoying the view of the gorgeous mountains and luscious trees. Leli cracked open a can of Pepsi-Cola, sighing after taking a large sip.

"You North Americans and your fizzy drinks." Jimmy jested, watching the girl enjoy her pop as he took a swig of his ale.

"You Western Europeans and your beer." She playfully retaliated before pouring the remainder of the beverage into her mouth, her hand cradling a small container of strawberries.

"You lot would love beer as well if yours were any good." Jimmy retorted, tittering at his remark. "But please don't include the French — they're wine people." He held a faux-haughty air in his speech.

"Ah yes, they've always been the classiest out of all of you." Leli joked, descending into a cackle at Jimmy's expression.

"I suppose we'll never agree in that respect. But," Jimmy started, his hand delving into the pocket of his cargo trench. "If there's one thing that people all over the world can agree on, it's this." His hand retracted from the mossy green pocket to reveal a palm-sized cake twisted in cling wrap.

"That it's useful to have a dozen pockets on your coat?" Leli laughed, eyeing the kuchen curiously.

"That pot brownies make everything better." A smirk painted his pink lips as he undid the plastic. While Leli had smoked many times before, this would be her first time eating an edible. The brownie was pink, green and blue, with the colors swirling in a sort of tie-dye-esque pattern. Jimmy peeled it similarly to the way you would a banana, unveiling half of the cake and looking at his work contently.
