If it weren't for the violent thumping of the train on the tracks, Dayton's sudden jolt in the bed would've woken Janis up. His curls tousled by the pillow, a few strands of hair stuck to his face and appeared a rich caramel color due to sweat. His eyes darted across the room as he slowly calmed from his dream. His fingers were clutching the sheets, his figure hunched over as he panted in relief and attempted to chase away the lingering fear.

It was the early morning; the sky was still navy blue but the stars had gone. It looked as though the sun would begin it's ascent any minute now. Dayton brought his knees up to his chest, burying his face in his hands with a laborious sigh. It wasn't until his pushed his hands from over his eyes, a shortcut to run his fingers through his hair, that he noticed Janis was awake.

"You're up early." She laughed, still laying down with her bare chest covered by the duvet.

"I had a bad dream." Dayton said. He rested his chin on his covered knees, feeling too embarrassed to look Janis in her eyes.

"I figured that much." She said, sitting up with the sheets clutched over her bosom. "About what?"

Dayton decided to ignore Janis' further inquiry about his nightmare.

"Nothing important." The boy finally turned to face his lover. "Do you have the time?"

Janis groaned out a "Let's see.", her voice strained by the effort of her reaching for the watch on her bedside dresser. "It's..." She trailed off, switching on the lamp as her blue eyes studied the face of her timepiece. Dayton noticed that her eyes looked magnificent in the darkness. They were almost like the water of a vibrant blue pool, a pool made out of ebony wood.

"Quarter to seven." She finally finished, looking his way with a small smile. She tossed the watch back onto the dresser, deciding to head out of the room to see what the others were doing. She was sure that at least one car would be alive with music, even at this time in the morning.

The sheet, of course, slipped off of Janis' body when she went to go grab some clothes from her suitcase. Dayton quickly looked away as though it was something he hadn't seen before, his cheeks tinted a darling shade of pink. He told himself it was a hot flash from the unsettling dream he'd had, but deep down he knew the real culprit.

Within a few minutes, Janis was dressed. She stepped into her heels and walked back over to her side of the the bed. When Dayton felt the mattress dip next to him, he finally felt it appropriate to look up from his twiddling fingers. Janis was sat at the edge, lighting up a cigarette as the sky turned purple through the window to her back.

"Wanna come with me, Dayton?" She inquired, mumbling through the smoke between her lips. He heard the Zippo flick closed, resting his head on the balls of his left palm before responding.
