Andrew had reviewed all the candidates a second time. He had reached an agreement with Sam, his girlfriend. No straight, pretty girls, no boys who were too much into parties, no one who would interfere with his studies or their relationship.

His choice, their choice, was Maya.

It had been very difficult for the young man to see his former roommate leave, but Alex had fallen in love and Jo had insisted for them to move in together.

Andrew and Sam didn't live together, as she was studying in another city. However, she was the girl he loved and they had not wanted to break up. They saw each other as much as possible.

Maya seemed serious, she had graduated from the fire academy a few months ago. She worked not far from the apartment and he had run into her several times in the emergency room.

He had made her come to announce her the news. She had knocked on the door.

-“Maya" he said with a smile. "How are you? We're on familiar terms, it's easier" he said as he let her in.

- "Fine and you Andrew?"

- "Fine, thank you. So, as you must have guessed, otherwise I wouldn't have made you come... If you're still interested, the second room is yours".

- "of course! Rents are out of price in this town. So yes, of course, with pleasure!"

- "great. I can help you move your stuff in if you want. Your day will be my day... I mean, it all depends on my job."

- "today if you want. I don't have much, and the fact that the room is already furnished, I just have my clothes and some personal belongings. I can't stand being at my parents' house anymore. The academy was something else at least."

- "fine we can go if you want, well, unless you need to pack some more stuff"

-“Oh no, everything is already in boxes, the few clothes that are left, I can always go get them later".

- "what kind of car do you have?"

- "a little Prius”

- "if you want I have an SUV, we can take mine"

- "that's nice"

They had then left to get Maya's stuffs. While chatting during the drive.

- "why me anyway?"

-“You looked serious. And the fact that you're not straight really appealed to my girlfriend."

- "Sam? is that right?"

-"Yes, Sam. She lives 200 miles away so she's bound to be a little jealous and vice versa. And you have a respectable job. We've met before at Grey+Sloan, in the ER. And you’ve made a good impression on me."

-"It works. And didn't you tell me about your sister?"

- "Yes, so, we have a third bedroom. My sister pays the rent, her share anyway, every month. Because she wants a place to sleep when she comes here to see me. We haven't grown up together since I was twelve. But we get along very well. She's four years older than me. And she lives in Italy."

- "Are you Italian?"

- "yes, I lost the accent because I went to an American school and I was still young. I came with my mother and she stayed with our father".

- "ok and she comes often?"

- "she tries to come every two-three months, a week. In Europe the vacations are not like here. She has four weeks off per year. But in her work, she gets at least two weeks more."
