Carina was 18 years old, she came to visit her mother and brother who lived in the United States. She was living in Italy with her father.

Her brother was 16 years old. They had not lived together for three years now, but they had remained very close. Every year, Carina was coming to Los Angeles for two or three months to spend time with her brother, Andrea, and her mother, Lucia.

In three years she had been able to visit a part of the West Coast. She loved coming here. But it was her idea to stay in Italy and send her brother to the United States to protect him from their father.

She was tall, brown hair, with hazel eyes and above all she was beautiful, really beautiful. Her brother too. One could easily say that they had been lucky with the genes they had received at birth.

It was a Saturday in June, early June, the weather was beautiful, as always in Los Angeles. Andrea and Carina had decided to go to the beach of Santa Monica with friends of the young man to spend good time.

The friends of Andrea, who was called Andrew now, matter of speaking, all 'in love' with Carina. Of course, they were mainly in love with her beauty.

Andrew knew that his friends liked his sister, but he knew her and knew that she was shy, reserved and that, on top of that, boys were not necessarily her 'thing'.

Obviously, Carina's father wasn't aware of this side of his daughter. But to Andrea she would never have hidden it. He was her confidant, her best friend, the one she loved the most in the world and that from the moment she met him at the maternity hospital.

They arrived at the beach and took their spot. The beach was surprisingly not crowded, which made the afternoon more pleasant for her. Indeed, she was rarely quiet when she went to this kind of place. Always being accosted. The advantage she had, was, that she looked young, younger than her age. Because of this, she could easily tell men that she was underage.

They were quietly sitting on their towels. The guys were talking to each other. There was Andrea next to her and then Link, Owen and Jackson.

A little further away a group of young people were playing beach volleyball. They were a bit noisy but they didn't bother the people around them who had come to spend a quiet Saturday.

Carina was quietly reading a book of Nicholas Sparks, "A walk to remember", it was her favorite author and especially her favorite book. There was of course the film adaptation, like many of Nicholas Sparks' books, and she loved the film as much as the book. But reading it, allowed her to be more immersed and even if she knew it by heart, she would never get tired of it.

She was quietly reading when the volleyball hit her calf putting sand on her towel.

A young girl, blonde, came running, apologizing already five meters before reaching Carina's level.

-"Excuse me, I'm really sorry, we didn't do it on purpose, it wasn't our goal."

Carina put a bookmark in her book, closed it and put it beside her.

She then took the balloon in her hands. She had not yet paid attention to this young woman. It was only when the blonde arrived in front of her, as she was getting up, that her eyes met those of the young girl who had come to get the ball.

-"I, I'm sorry" she stammered apologizing again.

-"nessun problema" [no problem]

- "sorry, wh-what ?"

- "sorry" she blushed "no problem"

She held out the ball and the beautiful blonde took it, touching Carina's fingers.
