Hi! Purple Ninja here. It's been too long tbh. I haven't written much and my vision for the story has been going a bit sideways. I had such a strong passion in the beginning, but now I can't seem to catch up to the current manga or anime.
A little fun fact... this story loosely stemmed from a dream I had. I remember binge watching MHA one day and then having a crazy (and kinda cool) dream about it. Essentially, this story would be my dream with a lot more details and a thoughtful story behind it. Then my writing partner Petrafied 101 (Jae) would help combine our ideas into full chapters.
I had a vision to insert this "dream" main character into the story. A self insert (Y/N) that would fit right into the narrative of My Hero Academia, while still being original. It proved to be a challenge because I wanted my readers to relate to the powers you had and the connections you'd make with Class 1-A. I was heavily influenced by the manga and would insert real/cannon dialog to compensate for the "real" interactions.
I liked the idea of making the main character have an emotional struggle to overcome, while still finding their balance in becoming a hero. I believe that in order to help others, you have to find balance and be willing to help yourself first. If you neglect yourself, then emotional situations can bottle up and burst.
That was the basis of the power that (Y/N) has... an overflowing "dark matter" that bubbles up and can go berserk . The forcefield that you activate is symbolic of shielding yourself off from others, the world, and the environment... but it is also like a trap that you have a hard time overcoming. Your hero name was supposed to be: Obsidian.
I also wanted to cover a story where a hero and villain start a family, in which the main character is born. Then a tragic "mysterious" accident would lead you to have a rough childhood... until you meet Deku.
I never intended Deku to be a love interest, but rather a wonderful friend. Hence the title, "My Neighbor." He would be a shoulder to lean on, an inspiration, and a good 1st friend to start high school with at UA. In your darkest moments, he would be the logic and reason for you to keep going.
Here are the concept covers I wanted for each new Seasonal Chapter of My Hero Academia:
Volume 3 was intended to be an emotional downfall. The peak of the story where you feel too lost, but Deku would find a way to bring you back. If you have ever watched Mob Psycho 100, it would be something like the season finale on Season 1.
However, I am not sure if I will continue this story. If I do, I will probably take some shortcuts and insert more main plot points, rather than filler content. I may just focus on a few character interactions, rather than have a 1:1 with every character.
But who knows :)
I would never want to sell myself short of a good story. MHA is still one of my favorites and I want to do this story justice.
Anyway, thanks for reading! I appreciate it and I hope this in-between chapter helps clarify things.
