everyone was sat in the living room surrounded by dead silence. long story short, hopper needed us to get gather at someone's house. so here we are, sitting in the byer's living room. the party was here, including this new girl eleven, el for short. all we needed was will.

el seemed like a sweet girl, and pretty cool. apparently she had telekinesis which was pretty fucking awesome. on the couch sat joyce, jonathan, and i in that order. hopper was close by in a chair. we all sat on the edge of our seats, listening to mike explain.

"okay, so, in this example, we're the acrobat." he used a pen to point to the paper he held up.

"will and barbara, and that monster, they're this flea. and this is the upside down, where will is hiding."

hearing this is like reliving it.

"mr.clarke said the only way to get there is through a rip of time and space." mike set down the pen and paper.

"a gate." dustin chimed in.

"that we tracked to hawkins lab." Lucas added. "with our compasses."

i looked to joyce and jonathan, whose mouths were slightly open, knowing they were just as confused as i am.

"okay, so the gate has a really strong electromagnetic field, and that can change the directions of a compass needle." dustin explained, nodding and waving his hand around. he was more of the fast explainer.

"is this gate underground?" hopper asked.

"yes." el spoke, making us all look at her. she spoke softly and quiet. i guess meeting all us new people was different.

"near a large water tank?" hopper asked in a tone, already knowing the answer to his question.

el nodded, "yes."

"h-how do you know all that?" dustin stutters.

"he's seen it." mike says, realizing.

"is there any way that you could...that you could reach will? that you could talk to him in this—" joyce gets cut off by el.

"the upside down."

"down. yeah." joyce whispers. el nods.

"and my friend barbara? can you find her too?" i ask leaning forward. el looks at me for a moment, before nodding. she seemed unsure, which made my stomach turn.

on the table was a taped up picture of barb, and a super-com producing static. el had her eyes closed. apparently she could find someone with just a picture of them. i could see her eyes move beneath her eyelids, searching. the lights flickered, making everyone look up. el's eyes opened, and her lip quivered slightly.

"i'm sorry." she whispered. i felt a pang in my chest, hoping this won't be bad news.

"what? w-what's wrong? what happened?" joyce asked, rubbing jonathan's hand on her shoulder.

"i can't find them." el said, her voice breaking. i sighed, dropping my head, as i heard jonathan step away.

"whenever she uses her powers, she gets weak." mike said. el was in the bathroom, taking care of her nose.

"the more energy she uses, the more tired she gets." dustin adds. we we're all standing around the kitchen table.

"like, she flipped the van earlier." lucas says. "it was awesome."

"holy shit, that is awesome" i agree.

"but she's drained." mike says.

"like a bad battery." Dustin compares.

joyce scoffs, growing frustrated. if my son was stuck in that place, i would be anxious too.

"well... how do we make her better?"

"we don't. we just have to wait and try again." mike says.

"well, how long?" i ask, a hint of impatient in my voice.

"i don't know." mike says, looking at me, then everyone.

"as if we have enough time." i mutter.

"the bath." el says quietly from the hall, making me jump. i wipe my face as if that will take the stress away.

we all turn to look at her.

"what?" joyce asks.

"i can find them." el pauses, looking around.

"in the bath."

i walked into the byer's living room, faintly hearing dustin on the phone.

"mr.clarke? it's dustin."

we needed to gather some "science-y" information about this bath el would be put into. i sat down on the couch, staring in front of me. i needed a breather, after being by so many people in one room.

i put my elbows on my knees, and rested my face in my hands. i sighed into them, which made it sound muffled.

this was supposed to be a one time thing. one. time. thing. now we're battling monsters and shit. i've gotten myself into deep shit, the last 48 hours.

i wonder if i should go tell dad i'm okay. he hasn't seen me and he might be worried. then again, he's probably drinking and can't remember.

"you alright?" i him ask, feeling weight on the right side of me. i uncovered my face and looked at him. he looked so stressed, yet a glimpse of happiness in his eyes, knowing he would see his brother soon. i can't imagine how's he felt these past few days.

"in all honestly, i feel weird. good, but weird." i chuckled, and smiled at him.

"well, you can talk to me. anytime." he said grabbing my hands, making my body face him. "did i ever tell you your so beautiful?"

i opened my mouth, hoping words would come out, but i was met with stutters. catching me off guard was something else.

"sorry, did i make you nervous?" he chuckled, tilting his head.

he knows what he's doing... and i like it.

"yeah... yeah, you did. but thanks for the compliment." i start to smirk and roll my eyes.

"i like everything about you, you know that." he said.

i'm not letting him beat me at my own game.

"everything, hmm? do you like the fact i think about you all day? especially late at night..." i smirked.

i watched jonathan's cheeks grow a shade of red i've never seen before. he instantly let go of my hands, snatching his back and clasping them together on his lap. i could laugh so hard right now, but that would just make him more nervous.

"hey, come on lovebirds!" hopper yelled in a gruff voice, walking towards the door.

me nor jonathan denied the nickname as we stood up. as i did, i stepped close to him and trailed my fingers down his wrist, holding his hand in mine.

"where are we going?" i asked looking at everyone else, walking out of the kitchen.

"middle school?" el replied, almost not sure if she was right.
