"sooo?" i asked nancy as barb and i walked her to her locker.

it was a regular morning for students here in hawkins. the first bell hasn't rang yet, thankfully, but i bet just about 10% of my class will be late...

never fails.

"did he call?" barb finishes my sentence, getting straight to the point

"keep your voices down!" nancy whispered.

"did he?" barb questioned, almost impatient.

"i told you it's not like that," nancy replied. barb and i gave each other a look before returning it to nancy.

"okay, i mean, yes, he likes me, but not like that."

we finally reached her locker and she started to twist the combination, "we just... made out a couple times."

a couple times?

"you're kidding!" i said playfully hitting her arm.

"no, really, you're kidding right?"

"'we just...made out a couple times.'" barb says mockingly. "nance seriously, you're gonna be so cool now, it's ridiculous."

"barb, don't worry. i won't let Steve make her popular and bitchy." i said winking.

nancy rolled her eyes and scoffed, "no, I'm not. don't worry. y/n has that covered."

i smiled and blew her a fake kiss, to which she rolled her eyes again.

i never considered myself 'popular' but that's all i seem to be, since i've hung out with steve harrington. and if i was being honest, i would much rather go back in time and still be a so called 'freak'.

"you better still hang out with us is all i'm saying." barb says with a shrug. nancy gave her a 'are you serious?' look.

"ig you become friends with tommy h. or carol—"

"oh, that's gross!" nancy cut off barb, furrowing her brows.

"now that," i said pointing a finger at nancy, but still looking at barb, "is one thing i can agree on."

don't get me wrong, we're all good friends, but they aren't the best people to be around. tommy, at least. i know him and carol both would ruin nancy's 'goody two-shoes act' as they like to call it.

"don't worry about me, barb." i smile at her and rest my arm on her shoulder, "i'll be sticking around."

"okay, i'm telling you, it was a one-time..." nancy trails off and barb and i raise our brows.

"two-time thing."

barb chuckles and shakes her head. we all notice a piece of paper in nancy's locker with blue writing. she snatches it unusually quick and opens it up.

meet me. bathroom -steve

"welp, now it's a three-time thing." i say chuckling. nancy ignores me and doesn't take her eyes off the piece of paper.

"cmon, that was a good one!" i huff, raising my hands.

"you were saying?" barb presses, knowing she's right. nancy looks up at us opening her mouth to protest, but purses her lips.

"yeah... have fun." i say grinning, linking arms with barb and walking away.

barely making it down the hall thanks to lost freshman and large crowds, halfway down i see tommy and carol walking out of an empty classroom.

"hey, Barb. i'll see you in class, okay?" i say letting go of her arm and stopping.

she nods, "uh, y/n? can i ask you something?"
