"god damnit!" i slipped on my dress, almost falling over. "dad, are you ready?"

"yeah! i'm going to start the car!" he yelled from downstairs. i was thankful it didn't take him long to get ready, unlike me, who was quickly putting on my black heels. i double-checked myself in the mirror before grabbing my small black bag, running out of my room before i even got it on my shoulder. i thought i looked nice in a dress, although i hated them.

i made sure to grab the house and car keys, just to be sure. i locked the door and ran—well, more like wobbled—to the car and got in. dad started driving off as soon as i sat down, hoping we wouldn't be late.

"fear not, for i am with you. be not dismayed, for i am your God. i will strengthen you. yes, i will help you. i will uphold you with my righteous right hand." the pastor spoke.

i sat between lonnie and mom, taking glances at the pastor to will's casket. it felt a completely unreal and hasn't hit me yet. it was numb feeling.

i looked to my right and saw y/n with her dad. she wore a black dress that came just above her knees and black heels. her h/l hair was down and had some wavyness to it. i remember when we were little, it was pin straight. she looked beautiful and stood out to me, even though everyone was wearing the same color. something about her just made me feel different. i'm not sure why, or how, but every time i'm around her i feel... fuzzy? i don't know. i've never even felt like that before.

once the pastor was done talking, everyone got a turn to walk by and drop a rose. i stood by mom after we all went, and karen talked to lonnie. i didn't listen too much into their conversation, just wondering what to do now. i saw y/n drop in a white rose, and walk towards us.

"hey." she said with a tight smile.

"oh, hey." i said looking down. there goes that fuzzy feeling again.

"how're you holding up?" she asks as we walk away from the crowd.

"pretty good." i say. "pretty good." i don't know why i repeat it. maybe to make myself believe it. make her believe it.

"i haven't cried since i last saw you, so, that's good." we both chuckled.

"yeah, that is pretty good." she replied. i noticed she opened her mouth to continue.

"um, can i talk to you about—"

"hey guys!" nancy called, walking towards us. i saw y/n grow annoyed to the fact she was cut off.

"hey..." she said as nancy walked up. "hey."

"jonathan, i was wondering if we could talk about..." nancy glances at y/n. "about yesterday."

"oh. yeah, sure. what about it?"

"well..." nancy looks at y/n again, wondering if she should continue.

"sorry, do i need to go or something?" y/n asks looking back at nancy. i smiled a bit. her jealousy is showing.

"well i just think—"

"no. i think you should come with us." i spoke at y/n before nancy would tell her anything different. she smiled at me and nodded.

y/n's pov
"this is where we know for sure it's been, right?" konathon and nancy went back and forth with questions for each other, while they both looked at a piece of paper.

they were sitting against a cemetery fence that was around a grave, and i was standing up walking back and forth, kicking dirt. i had no idea what we were getting ourselves into but it sure wasn't going to be good.
