jonathan put his face into the pillow, trying to escape the sun that shined through the window. he grunted, lifting his head, knowing it was probably early. upon opening his eyes, he remembered this wasn't his bed. he looked around confused before seeing me sat up, flipping through pages in a book.

"oh..." he began to sit up, too. "hey."

"hey." i replied, not looking away from the book. i've sat here for about an hour now, trying to find any information about this monster's whereabouts and activity. something tells me, though, this isn't even normal enough to be in books.

jonathan sighed, "couldn't sleep?" he knew i still wasn't doing well after being in that things lair, and being chased. i shook my head with a half smile, dismissing it, making him frown.

"every time i close my eyes, i just..." i started, thinking back to tossing and turning all night. i tried my hardest not to, in order for jonathan to stay asleep. but i couldn't help it. the monster flashing throughout my mind, and hearing the shrieks from it's blood covered mouth was too much. "keep seeing that... thing."

"wherever i was, that place... i think it lives there. it was feeding there." i paused, "feeding on that deer." i began to tap her pencil anxiously, and took a deep breath. "that means that if...if will..."

jonathan noticed my eyes starting to water and heavy breathing. "hey." he said scooting closer to me, "my mom said she talked to will. if he's alive, there's a chance barbara is, too."

i furrowed my eyebrows, still looking down at my paper full of research. "what? what about barb?"

jonathan was confused, as if this was big news everyone had heard. everyone except me. "barbara, y'know, she's missing."

"missing? she's... missing? i thought she'd be back at school by now." i questioned, thoughts running wild through my mind. if barb is missing, there's a chance she could be with will. with that thing. "that means that she's trapped...in that place." i looked at jonathan with wide eyes, barely talking below a whisper, afraid my voice might crack.

suddenly a bizarre thought crossed my mind, but it was the only thing to do.

"wehave to find it again."

"you wanna go back out there?" jonathan asked. i'm not sure if he would agree, but since he asked first instead of calling me crazy was a good sign to me.

"maybe we don't have to." i looked down at the many books spread in front of us. "when i saw it, it was feeding on that deer. meaning it's..it's a predator, right?" i looked at jonathan.

"right." he responded, not wanting to break my train of thought.

"and it seems to hunt at night, like a..." i remembered the page and started to flip through one of the books. i tossed the one that had a picture of lions on it.

"a lion or a coyote. but it doesn't seem to hunt in packs like them." i said, sitting up more straight. my posture wasn't the best, lord help me.

"it's always alone, like...a bear. and i remember at steve's, barb cut herself." jonathan nodded his head in agreement, already knowing this. i'm assuming a certain someone already told him and he didn't bring it up to keep me from getting jealous.

"and then, last night, the deer..."

"hmm, it was bleeding, too." he started to catch on.

"one sec." i said grabbing another book, tossing it on top. "sharks can detect blood in one part per million. that's one drop of blood in a million and they can smell it from a quarter mile away." i pointed to a spot on the page.
