Chapter 20

Quarter finals.

No big deal.

AJ had been in multiple quarter finals before but none of them had the stakes that this one had. Her plan was riding on this. Her dojo was riding on this. Beating her rival rode on this.

She glanced up at the large bracket seeing her name next to Sawyers. They were up second after Miguel and AJ could not wait. Finally she could prove she was the better fighter between the two of them. Their rivalry would be put to an end for all to see.

Both girls knew that. They knew that on this stage it was winner takes it all. And both were determined to be a winner. But first Miguel had to go.

AJ watched as the boy who was once paralyzed absolutely destroyed his opponent. The girl gasped loudly and immediately started cheering when Miguel did a flying spin kick sending his opponent literally flying to the ground ending the match with him as the winner.

"Hell yeah Diaz!" AJ yelled laughing as she did so.

She was proud of him. After everything with Johnny he was still out there proving why he was a champion. He was amazing to watch.

Miguel turned and gave her a small smile before walking off the mats to join Eagle Fang again.

"Nice Diaz." Johnny commented, "Keep up the energy and remember that just because we are Eagle Fang does not mean we still can't be ruthless."

Miguel nodded a little less enthusiastically than he normally did. The action made AJ frown slightly due to the fact that she knew why he was acting like that.

Just as AJ was about to ask him if he was okay he cut her off with a question of his own.

"Ready to destroy her?" He asked as he glanced over at the raven haired girl glaring daggers at AJ.

"Of course I am." AJ responded with a grin. She looked over at Sawyer and matched her expression only difference was that she still had the cocky grin on her face, "Everyone is finally going to see who the better fighter is."

This time when Miguel nodded it had its full enthusiasm, "Go get her then sweetheart." he responded sarcastically.

"Will do." AJ replied as she stepped onto the mats when her name was called.

The two girls walked towards the middle of the mats with hatred in their eyes. They knew what was riding on this and they couldn't wait to settle it in front of a crowd.

"Well, look who it is." AJ whispered as the two shook hands each trying to grip harder than the other, "Little Sawyer Wilson on the big stage."

"Watch it dog girl." Sawyer whispered back, "You don't know who you're dealing with."

AJ made a fake confused face her eyebrows furrowed, "Don't I? I was your best friend once, remember that?"

Sawyer dropped her hand in disgust and moved back to her position. AJ scoffed and went back to hers getting into her own fighting position.

It was silent from either side as the referee held his hand between the two girls. AJ took a deep breath and prepared herself for the fight to end her rivalry.

When the referees hand was removed both girls went in for attacks, neither of which landed. They moved together like Yin and Yang but chaotically.

AJ was growing frustrated that none of her attacks were working. She went in for a leg sweep which Sawyer jumped over. The action shocked her and made her falter a little. As she tried to get back in position Sawyers foot landed square in her stomach sending her down to the ground.
