Harry was in the potions classroom, trying to brew a potion for professor Snape. He had gotten sentenced to detention earlier, when he tried to fire a spell at Malfoy for insulting Hermione. Malfoy moved out of the way of the spell, it hit the wall, changed directions and hit professor Snape, the spell turned the tips of Snape's hair red. Snape immediately noticed and muttered a spell to change his hair back, his face morphing into one of distain. He then told Harry to come speak to him after he had finished packing his things and to bring his things with him as it would take a while.

Apparently, Snape thought that making a difficult potion was not punishment enough and had arranged it so that Harry had to carry his things back to the train all on his own. Harry had leave the lunch hall early, but he would be free two hours before the train arrived. Enough time to haul his luggage to the station.

Harry had was reaching the last step of brewing the potion and hoped that this time he would actually be successful. Just as the potion was showing signs of completion Malfoy entered the room with a smirk on his face. ''Catch this'', he said, throwing an unidentifiable object into the cauldron. Harry tried to catch it, whatever it was but his efforts were in wain. The mysterious object created a splash as it displaced liquid during its fall. The incomplete potion stung Potter's eyes and when it stopped stinging Malfoy had already left. Harry continued to stir the potion that was now a different color from what it should have been in hopes that he could figure out a way to fix it. It was just then that he somehow tripped taking the cauldron with him and pouring the potion all over himself and the rest of his luggage. Harry was thankful that the fire was off and that the cauldron was not hot.

Harry then got his stuff and left the potion room to go and find Snape so that any effects of the potion could be undone. Harry also decided to take the cauldron and the ladle with him so that he could ask Snape how to fix the potion. On his way to Snape's office he met a Slytherin student he has not seen before. Upon closer inspection the student looked like Tom Riddle. But Potter continued on dismissing his suspicion. He hoped the Slytherin boy would not notice him as he used a shrinking charm on the cauldron and the ladle and stored them among his luggage.

Tom starred at Harry for a good 2 seconds before he finally spoke. ''Hello there I'm Tom Riddle. You seem like a new student do you need some help in finding your way to the Great Hall.'', Tom said politely. ''Yes, please'', Harry responded trying to be just as polite as Tom but seeming more nervous and shy then intended. There was no way this was the Tom Riddle, it was likely someone with a similar name, Tom was a common name after all.

Tom led Harry to the Great Hall and Harry let his imagination wonder for the rest of the way until finally, they were near the doors of the great hall. Harry stood meekly behind Tom waiting for him to open the doors and then entered after Tom. ''Sorry'', both Harry and Tom apologized at exactly the same time. Harry then felt embarrassed and decided to let Tom do the talking. However, luckily for them the Headmaster looked at a scroll of paper and suddenly said, ''Hello, Hadrian James Peverell welcome to Hogwarts. I apologize that you got lost and a fellow student had to escort you to the Great Hall instead of a member of staff. Thank you Tom, for your kindness I award Slytherin 20 points. But anyways, since you are not too late we will get Hadrian sorted before we start the feast.''

The Headmaster then asked Harry to come up to the stool and place the sorting-hat on his head. Harry complied and the sorting-hat repeats what it previously said in the alternate future, but this time Harry was not adamant on avoiding Slytherin so the hat sorts him into Slytherin. Harry then approaches the Slytherin table and tries to find a free chair as the onlookers start clapping. By the time the clapping stops Harry finds a open space near Tom. Since he does not want to sit with Tom he tries to search again for another spare seat but finds none so he reluctantly asks to sit next to Tom and sits down when Tom gives him permission. As he does that his emotions are clearly plastered on his face but Harry is unaware of the fact. He just waits for the headmaster to let them start eating and then does some stress eating in an attempt to forget about the fact that he might have to live the rest of his life under a fake name.

After they had finished eating the plates cleared and the headmaster gave his usual speech except for when he asked Harry to meet him in his office after settling into the Slytherin dorms. Harry felt nervous, he worried that the Headmaster recognised him as a time traveller, but he still went with the rest of the new Slytherin to meet their Head of house. Harry did not pay much attention to what they were saying or their name knowing he could just call them professor or sir. Yada, yada, if you read 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone' you get the drill, they get their schedules, etc. Then (for the sake of drama) apparently since nobody wants to room with Tom, Harry got kicked out from where he is assigned as one of Tom's intended room mate takes his place.

Since Harry had to go see the headmaster he left his stuff hidden in the common room with his strongest protection charms and heads out to the headmaster's office. That was a very suspicious move for a 'new student who did not even get a proper school tour and had never been to the headteachers office before, let alone have been told the directions to the place. If I was a busy-body with high ambitions like Tom I would have definitely noticed and so did Tom. So Tom offered to show Harry the way to the headmaster's office. Knowing that declining such an offer would make him 'radiate' suspicion Harry accepted the offer.
