TW: Verbal Abuse, Alcohol, Mentions of Death/Gaslighting
Y/N's POV
"Kid, I swear if you don't get down here, I'll pull your arms out of their sockets!" You heard your father yell. You ran downstairs, and stood a straight as a plank of wood, awaiting his demands. "Go get me a whiskey. And clean that mess in the kitchen, while you're at it."
You ran to do the given task. You brought him the whiskey, immediately running back to clean the kitchen and rid it of the dishes that have cluttered the counters for weeks. Just a couple more hours, you thought. So much for the great birthday you were promised. You turned eight today. You were promised celebration, cake, and a bit of time outside. You had been so excited, but father was in a bad mood. So you were stuck inside once again, flinching every time he yelled.
Tonight was the night. The worst day of your life, and you were going to escape. You were going to escape his abuse, his drinking, his constant reminders that it was your fault she died and that you were nothing, that you were selfish to take her from this world.
"Y/N, you better be out of my damn sight and in your room in 20 minutes," He growls from the other room. You finish cleaning as fast as you can before running up the stairs and shutting the door as quietly as you could. He hated it when you made too much noise. To him, you were a slave to do his dirty work. He hated you.
You stared at the bag in your hands. Water, food, a blanket, a compass, and a knife. You packed those into the bag, seeing them disappear into your inventory. That was all you needed to survive and find somewhere new. To build your own life, some place that you were appreciated and loved. Anywhere but here.
Do it. Leave.
The little voice in the back of your head urged you to go on, moving away from the insane shell of a man you knew as your father.
You sling the bag across your back, cautiously moving to the window. Your ears twitch as you hear heavy footsteps downstairs.
It's now or never.
You open the window as you hear him sloppily stomp up the stairs.
"Y/N, I swear, you'll never see the light of day again. I told you to clean the damn kitchen!" He said, his words slurred. Scared, you hopped out the window and climbed down the rope you had placed before hand.
You felt your feet touch solid ground as you heard the creak of your door opening. You bolted for the woods, not turning back as your ears picked up the distant sounds of him tearing apart your room, shouting and grunting as glass shattered. You never turned back, running on and on.
< two days later >
You were lost. You hadn't looked at the compass when you left, and you had gotten lost. You must've run too far north, as snow now blanketed the cold ground you tread on. You shivered, trudging through the snow until you found a small cave to hide in.
It wasn't very warm, but it kept the snow from falling directly on you. You pulled the blanket out of your inventory, settling in for the night as the sky darkened. You shivered, wondering how long it would be until you reached civilization.
You had been sparing your food and water, but you were starting to run low. You hadn't expected to be alone this long. As the stars began to settle into their places in the sky, you knew it'd be a cold night.
