Forest I

Cordelia POV:

After stepping through the portal, I found myself in a completely new world. Greenery was spread everywhere and it looks completely normal.

If it wasn't for the powerful presence bearing it's gaze down on me, I may have even believed that. Wind magic gathered around Jude's limp body and held him straight while I decided to explore the forest.

Before I could even take a single step, I saw a woman with black hair running towards me. Her strength was quite strong, around that of a regalia mage, however her assailant was around Uto's level.

The beast chasing her was something like a giant lizard. It's red flames scorched the forest as it prepared to kill the woman.

She had long ears that reminded me of the elves, which makes sense seeing she probably lives in this forest.

Suddenly, a sharp ringing sound came into my mind and I saw something like a game panel appear in front of me.

Mission: Protect Sophie from the beast chasing her and gain her trust

I cursed under my breath before creating a mana barrier to protect her. Before the beast could turn towards me, I sent powerful wind blades to cut through it's skin with ease.

'Nothing challenging like I thought.'

It roared before shooting a meteorite like attack towards the sky. The spell fragmented into various fireballs that then came for me.

Of course, this was nothing.

1,440 magic missiles of pure mana conjured next to me before I sent them hurling at the beast's attacks. All the fireballs were destroyed while the beast died as well.

I sucked in my breath that I had been holding back for some time. The bears had completely changed my view of the relictombs and it was causing me to be afraid of even weak beasts like that lizard.

I hid Jude behind a shroud of Illusion magic as the woman named Sophie came to me.

(A/N: Cordelia elements are fire, lightning, wind, sound and illusion.)

She went to her knees as she thanked me, "Thank you for saving my life!"

"No problem, I was just passing by here," I lied to her, worried internally that she will be able to figure me out.

Luckily she didn't as she continued, "That beast chasing me is a minion of the king of this forest, who is simply known as Chamrior King. He already killed my family and is the tyrant of this region."

She wiped away tears that started to fall down from her cheeks. I hurriedly asked her, "Is there no one to beat him?"

She shook her head, "No. My father was the previous king before he came out of nowhere and took over."

Suddenly, a quest icon appeared in front of me. It seemed to have been hidden using illusion magic or has been replayed in my mind as the girl couldn't see it.

Mission: Gain Sophie's trust and overthrow the king.

'This went from 1 to 100 really quickly,' I thought before looking properly at her. I was in too much shock but she was really beautiful. Her midnight black hair fell all the way down to her slender waist, and her body was further accentuated with sizeable chest and busty hips.

She had scratches over her body but looking through them with show a clear skin that has been carefully taken care of.

'She seems like royalty if you look through the wear and tear she has been through,' I concluded before finally answering her.

"I am quite strong, so I think I can help you. How strong was your father?"

"My father could have easily killed one of these beasts that the Chamrior King has under him. However, the Chamrior King was much stronger and just played with him during their battle. My father only managed to injure him by catching him off-guard."

'Hmm, seeing that beast was only as strong as Uto, her father should be as strong as a Scythe. Thus, the Chamrior King should be weaker than the King Bear, meaning I could beat him.'

"Chamrior King uses very powerful plant magic, so fire magic counters him very well!" The girl told me before finally introducing herself, "Oh sorry, I forgot to tell you my name! My name is Sophie!"

I let out a relaxed smile before replying, "My name is Cordelia."

'Revealing my real name won't really change anything since this is just in the relictombs.'

"Does he have any army?" I asked her while we were walking through the forest.

"He has taken many beasts of the forest under his control. You can't fight him alone, so we'll be asking for help from the other oppressed families of the forest."

"They survived so far? And they didn't try to attack?"

"They managed to survive by using an ancient bunker. As for why they didn't attack, there was simply no one strong enough to lead the attack. Till you came that is," she replied before smiling in my direction.

Jude's invisible body was levitating just behind me, and it was taking some effort to ensure it didn't hit any trees and alert Sophie.

I had spread my mana around to detect any movements, but looks like there were none. The presence seeing me, who I assume was Uriel or the King, had already left, giving me a sense of calmness.

The only sounds that could be heard were both of our breaths as we continued to wade through the forest. The sky turned orange as the sun dipped down the horizon and it slowly turned dark.

"We should rest for now," Sophie said to me before clearing a cave. 'An earth mage?' I mused before making myself comfortable.

'I thought everyone here would have aether, but seeing the mana present as well as the beast I fought, that does not seem to be the case.'

I quietly placed Jude's body to the side, making him feel as comfortable as possible while still not alerting Sophie.

I then looked at her, and an awkward silence descended upon us.

"Umm, could you tell me more about your life?" I asked her nervously while scratching my head. Her dull eyes beamed as she rapidly shook her head before starting to speak.

She described how she was born as the first and only child of the royal family. She had a life typical of a princess, except she also trained a lot in magic because she wanted to become as strong as her father.

The entire kingdom was united under his strength and he was her role model. She even had someone she loved and her life was perfect.

Until her crown princess coronation that is.

A mysterious man with a powerful aura forcefully burst into the royal palace during the banquet and killed dozens of people instantly.

The king lead the knights there to fight against him but they were too weak to do anything and were simply toyed by him.

Her mother was the first one of the royal family to die as she tried to escape with the nobles.

Her lover then sacrificed himself by using his body to block the invader's attack. She only managed to escape because her father managed to buy her time.

The entire capital was reduced to rubble. When Sophie finally decided to look back while being escorted away by the nobles, she saw the man sitting alone in the throne of the king, grinning like a madman on top of the debris.

I shuddered when she was done with her description. 'How awful,' I thought as I felt pity for her. To have her entire life destroyed during the biggest day of her life.

"A-anyway, we are going to take the kingdom back soon so it's fine!" The girl stammered out while wiping away her tears that threatened to fall down her cheeks.

We both made some more small talk before going to sleep, as tomorrow is going to be a big day.
