LOUISE JOHNSON
I yanked the covers off my sister and opened my eyes slightly to find a couple of pillows instead of her.
I frowned. Where had she gone?
I went to the bathroom and turned on the light, but there was no sign of her.
If she wasn't in the bathroom, she wasn't in the bedroom, so where was she?
I turned my head suddenly towards the door when I saw the handle move slowly, and then slowly start to open.
I raised an eyebrow at the boy who stood extremely still when he saw me standing there staring at him, my fists balled up against my hips.
"Who are you?" I approached the door and he took a step back.
"Is this Heather Johnson's room? Heather Johnson's room?" he whispered.
I crossed my arms.
"Why are you looking for her?"
He scratched the back of his neck nervously. I could barely see his face. It wasn't dawn yet, and all I could see was a couple of rays of moonlight coming through the window against his face.
"Mhm... Well..."
"You know where she is, don't you?"
I got my answer when he avoided my gaze, pretending to look at the ceiling.
He groaned as I grabbed him by the collar of his pyjamas and pulled him into the room. I gently closed the door behind us so as not to wake anyone.
"Talk. Where is my sister?"
That seemed to catch him off guard. Didn't he know we were sisters? Didn't he notice the physical resemblance between the two of us?
"Listen, I can't..."
I pushed him in the chest, making him fall into a sitting position on the edge of the bed.
"Tell me where my sister is. Now."
He muttered something that I couldn't understand because of the speed with which he said it.
"Speak slower" I demanded.
"In a bunker. Or so I think."
I grimaced.
"What bunker are you talking about?"
He sighed and ran his hands over his face.
"A week ago we found a bunker in the woods behind the school. We've been training there every morning since then."
What?
This had to be a joke.
Heather had gone out every night without me noticing?
Or rather, without telling me?
"How did they get out of the school and into the woods?" I asked.
"Your sister was the first to discover the bunker. She found a hole in the fence of the courtyard. That's where we went through."
I was silent for a couple of seconds, trying to process all the information.
I walked over to the wardrobe, pulled out a jacket which I quickly put on, and turned to the boy who was looking at me blankly.
"Take me to the bunker."
"What? No. Of course not. They'll all wake up in an hour!"
"Then hurry up, the quicker the better."
