CHASE MITCHELL
There was a hell of a show in the dining hall last night.
That girl from yesterday would certainly be a problem at boarding school, but she wasn't my biggest problem.
But she was one of my biggest temptations.
I walked down the stairs with my hands in my trouser pockets, distracted, on my way to the boarding school canteen where all the students would gather.
Arriving at the dining hall, I spotted most of them. They were chatting amongst themselves with their own social group, and it didn't take me long to spot the freckled girl talking to her sister and her sister's friends.
I leaned against one of the white pillars, still looking at Johnson. After a couple of seconds she seemed to notice my - not at all discreet - gaze on her, so when she turned her head and met my eyes, all she did was hold my eye contact.
I gave her a lopsided smile, to which she only raised an eyebrow and turned away again when her sister spoke to her.
I turned my attention to Headmistress Presley as she entered the dining room and cleared her voice, ending everyone else's chatter.
"Dear students, as many of you know, today is the beginning of the second term at our boarding school, and therefore, the teaching methodology we used before will evolve this term."
Will it evolve? That is new.
"During the classes, everyone will be separated into sections" she continued "Mentality, Fire, Water, Air and Invisibility. You will receive necklaces with charms that will indicate your section."
A student raised his hand.
"Yes, Alex?"
"How will we know which section we belong to?" asked the one I now know is called Alex.
"That's what I was getting at. Your fingerprints will tell us" I laughed and shook my head. This had to be a joke. "We have a fingerprint reader that will tell us which section they belong to. Each section will have a leader."
She pulled out a sheet of paper and began to read.
"The people I name to come to my side. Mentality, Julliette Barrett" the girl stood next to the headmistress. "Fire, Emily Hawkings. Water, Louise Johnson. Air, Violet Flinn. And finally, invisibility, Chase Mitchell."
I raised my eyebrows. And since when did I agree to be leader?
"How do they know which section we belong to if they haven't taken our fingerprints?" I questioned as I approached.
"Of course we did. We got them when you guys put your fingerprint in ink on the consent form."
Of course we did. The consent form for being over eighteen.
I nod without being one hundred percent convinced. Principal Presley put the necklace around my neck, apparently the other four girls she had called earlier already had their pendants.
"Follow me, everyone" she called.
As requested, we followed her into a large room on an underground floor of which I was unaware. In the middle of the room was a table with a strange machine that was like an open transparent glass book.
The five of us leaders stood in front of the other students. I crossed my arms across my chest and kept looking at the strange machine.
"Start lining up in front of the table and put your hand outstretched on the glass" ordered the headmistress.
