That day was gonna be challenging.

Alex took a deep breath in while exiting his home in preparation for it.

Today was one more day where he had practice on the pitch with the girls and it was the first time he'd see Lexie after Perrie's birthday.

Alex had messaged Kara asking her if she would need a ride to the pitch but she reassured him he had it covered.

The English man was putting his game face on. He had to act like he didn't know anything about Lexie and her new guy, or that he even saw Kara the day before.

They hadn't talked about it, but he wouldn't imagine the girl would want anyone to know that. Because then they'd have more questions that she'd definition not want to answer.

His phone rang as he was approaching the college's stadium and he picked it up with a smile.

"Good morning, bubba" Perrie's voice sounded so light and happy.

"Good morning, baby. How are you?"

"I'm good. I just finished up a work thing and I wanted to talk to you before I go in to the next thing."

"You're already at work? Babe, they're killing you."

"Well, I knew it'd be that way, and I still like it." Alex smiled, he worried about the amount of work she was putting in but the way she spoke about her job, it reminded him of the way he used to train and put in the extra hours back when he was still playing football. He loved to see all that passion she had.

"They can't work you to the bone though, you have rights." He made sure to remind her.

"It is a business trip though," she tried explaining "I'm here to work as hard as I can, not run around LA with my boyfriend."

A cheeky smiled appeared in his face. Yeah, that's right he's her boyfriend.

"Okay, fine keep working as hard as you want, as long as you keep running around with me too."

"Who talked about you?" her sharp tone made him smirk.

"Oh, it's the other boyfriend."

"Yes, exactly I was talking about my other boyfriend."

"Well, you never gave me his name you know."

"Why, you interested?" he could hear her holding back her smile trying not to betray their little game.

"I have a few words I want to say to him."

"Are you gonna fight for me?"

"Absolutely." Alex says a little quicker than he was planning. He could sense Perrie's cheeky smile from the phone.

"Alright gladiator, don't sharpen your sword yet." Alex tried to not laugh at the way that sounded "What are you up to today?"

Alex and Perrie continued chatting for a few minutes until he had to definitely go before they were both late.

And the nerves that were dissolved once he had heard her voice were back on.

Now he had to face the girls. Most importantly he had to face Lexie.

Professional, he could be professional.

"Coach, finally!" Melissa greeted him first. "We thought you wouldn't show up."

"I'm right on time. Aren't I?" Alex pointed at his watch. They're all gathered around him greeting him and each other and they were ready to listen to what Alex would have them do that day.
