Liza P.O.V.
On Monday morning, I got out of bed with determination. Starting this week I was going to be on hyper alert - I was going to find out what was going on once and for all. First though, I needed to get my friends back, they were probably the only ones that would help me.
Putting on a pair of black skinny jeans, white tank-top and a leather jacket, I looked smugly in the mirror. I had planned this outfit the night before - I called it my 'Power outfit'. I wasn't going to back down, and I was letting people know that.
Rummaging through my shoe cupboard, I got out a pair of black high heels. I had read in a magazine, that height always helped with your presence. And since I didn't have muscles like Ms. Yoshioka, I needed all the extra height I could get.
I tied my hair up in a quick bun, and hurried downstairs. As always, my mom stood humming in the kitchen, making breakfast. She looked up when she heard my heels approaching, and smiled at me.
"Good morning. How did you sleep?" she asked, setting a plate of food in front of me.
"Not great." I mumbled, my mouth stuffed with a piece of toast.
She sat across from me, concerned. "Nightmares?"
I shook my head, gulping down some orange juice. "No, just a lot on my mind lately."
She suddenly looked extremely guilty, and she looked down at her hands, which were folded on top of the table. "Oh, if that's so..."
"What's up, mom?" I asked, munching my way through another slice.
"Well," she started, not meeting my eyes, "your sister called yesterday, when you were already asleep."
I nodded. "Yeah, she promised she would call me back. Trust her not to realize the time difference."
My mom laughed nervously. "Mmm.." she agreed.
"What did she say?" I asked, scraping the last few crumbs off of my plate.
She stood up quickly, scraping her chair back loudly. "Are you done?" she asked, indicating my plate. I nodded, and she quickly gathered everything off of the table, and put them into the sink. I think she might be avoiding the question. But that's just a guess.
"Mom, wha-" I started to asked, but she cut me off.
"You need a drive to school? Come on, then." she said, practically running out of the kitchen, her face red and flustered. I stared after her for a second, before running to catch up as the door slammed.
"Wait up! Where's the fire?" I joked, getting into the car. As I closed the door, a number of rust flakes bombarded off of the bonnet, and I was glad that the window was closed.
