44. Homies

Lev's POV

Me and Cam had been shooting hoops for what must have been hours, but time had passed by so fast to me it had only felt like five minutes. "Do you want a drink bro?" Cam asked, throwing me a bottle of water before I'd even answered. "Cheers bro" I thanked him, screwing the cap off and gulping half of it down.

I wiped the beads of sweat that had formed on my forehead, walking over to him. "Yo if you wanna take a shower before you head off it's right through the hall, there's towels in there" he offered. I smiled, dapping him up. "Thanks man, I'm super gross and sweaty right now not gonna lie" I laughed.

In the time I'd spent with Cam, the two of us ended up getting surprisingly close - he now considered me one of his homies.

I ended up showering, taking longer than I'd realized, and as soon I was done I walked back out to where Cam was sitting. "You heading off now?" He asked. I nodded. "Yeah, my car is parked at Piper's so I'll get going."

He smiled, walking me over to his front door. "Hey man if you're free you should totally come over tomorrow, we can hang" he insisted. I nodded, bumping his fist before leaving and making my way down the street to Piper's.

Finally it occurred to me that I'd left Jentzen over at Piper's house, completely forgetting he was waiting for me. I was his ride home so he couldn't leave until I came back. I cursed to myself, pulling my phone out of my pocket. The first thing I saw on my Lock Screen was a text notification from him.

Jentzen:
I was too tired to stay and wait. I'm on my way back home.

He was already gone? According to the time he sent the text, he must've left over two hours ago. I decided to just drive home and see him there rather than responding to his text now.

When I was finally home, I unlocked the door to notice all the lights were already off. Me must be in my room. I checked the time, seeing it had gone past 1am. Was he sleeping already?

I creaked my bedroom door open, my eyes landing on Jentzen who was laying in bed, his eyes closed peacefully. My dog Jupiter was laying on top of him but still awake, looking at me. Normally she would come running to me the second I arrived home but she seemed too comfortable to care to move.

I smiled, enjoying seeing my favourite boy and favourite girl together. She almost looked like she was watching over him in his sleep. I was too tired to do much but change out of my clothes and clamber in to bed. As soon as I had lied down I could already feel exhaustion take over me. I yawned, lazily draping an arm over Jentzen's body before falling into a deep sleep.

Just as fast as I'd fallen asleep, it had felt like all but five minutes had passed until I was waking up again when in reality it had been hours. I stretched out, feeling the spot next to me empty. I opened my eyes and sat up, noticing the bed had no inhabitants apart from me. On the side was a small note with rushed handwriting scribbled across it. I picked it up, rubbing my eyes as I read it.

Went for a walk, didn't want to wake you.

I clambered out of bed, walking over to my closet and throwing some clothes on. Since Jentzen was out, I might as well go over to Cam's house - I didn't know when Jentzen would be returning.

I didn't waste much time getting ready and hopped right in my car - or, more accurately, my mom's car - to drive over to his house.

Once I was there, I knocked on his door and waited for him to answer. "Yooooo" he cheered, dapping me up - a handshake he had initiated a lot since we first met - and invited me in.

He told me of some plans he had for us today and I nodded along eagerly. First on the list, some gaming. I told him yesterday about this new game I'd been wanting to try out of the ps5 which he just so happened to have, so today was the perfect time to play it together.

After an hour of gaming, I noticed a message on my phone.

Jentzen:
Hey, where are you?

Lev:
I'm at Cam's house since I thought you went out today. Are you not?

Jentzen:
Oh... no, yeah, I'm doing stuff. I'm not at home, I'm... busy as well. Y'know, running errands.

Lev:
Cool. Hey, I'm kinda in the middle of a game rn but I'll text you later, yeah?

Jentzen:
Yep... that's fine. Have fun.

I smiled, placing my phone down and turning back to the screen. "Hey, no fair, I told you to pause it bro!" I laughed at Cam who had continued the game while I was busy texting.

He chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. "What can I say man, you snooze you lose" he teased. I shook my head disapprovingly. "You're gonna wish you didn't say that, I'm gonna make you regret those words and beat you in this game so hard if it takes me all day!"

And somehow, it did take me all day.
