Chapter 5

Kai’s POV
  I wake up a little early and get ready for the day. Today I start being a guard for Phoenix Drop. As I finish up what I was doing, I get a knock at the door. I put my helmet on and go answer it. Garroth and Laurence were standing on the other side waiting for me.
  “Hey? Can I help you?”
  “Lord Aphmau wants us to show you to the guard tower if that’s alright,” Garroth said looking at me.
  “Oh ok but I already know where it is though.”
  “Well we are here now so let’s just go,” Laurence said a little tiredly.
  “Tired?”
  “Uh a little, but I’m fine so don’t worry.”
  They led me to the guard tower and showed me where I can find my assignments for the week. I have patrol outside the walls with Travis. They walk off and I follow them to a room with the other guards. I’m guessing a break room. There is a couch, a table with a few chairs, and a counter with a coffee pot on it. Laurence grabs a cup from the cabinet and gets some coffee. Garroth does the same. He takes off his helm and he has sandy blond hair and ocean blue eyes. He looks cute- wait what am I saying, stop it Kai. I stand there not knowing what to do. I want some coffee but I don’t want to show my face. I stood there thinking till Aaron said something to me.
  “Are you going to get some coffee Kai?” They all look at me.
  “Uhh no thanks I’m not ready to show my face to anyone.”
  “That’s fine I get it.”
   “Hey Kai, are you ready to start patrolling?” Travis says, looking at me while taking another sip of coffee.
  “Yeah whenever you’re ready to go.” Travis stands up and puts his cup in the sink.
  “Let’s go.”

Outside the wall
  Travis walks in front of me with his sword out. When we get to the end of the wall we turn and head back and Travis starts to talk to me.
  “So uhh what village did you come from.”
  “Why does it matter where I came from? I'm here now and that’s all you need to know.”
  “I was just curious since no one told me how you got here and I just wanted to know.”
  I shook my head as to say I don’t want to talk about it. He nodded his head in response. We didn’t talk to each other for the rest of the time. We waved to each other and went our separate ways.

2 weeks later
  I decided to go out for a bit. Everyone should be asleep by now. I grabbed my helm and my sword and left. I went around the wall so no one could see me and ask what I was doing or where I was going. I went to the river I was at when I first met Garroth and Laurence. I sat down and took off my helm and put it next to me. I looked up at the stars as the slight wind hit my ears. I relaxed and laid down. It was very calm out here to say the least. I closed my eyes and breathed the fresh air. A few moments later my ears picked up a sound. I don't think much of it since I’m outside and there’s wild life out here. I hear it again but closer it’s probably a deer or something. Within a few minutes I sat up and looked behind me to see Garroth and Laurence standing there.
  “Why did you guys follow me...say something.”
  “YOU’RE A GIRL!?” they scream in unison.
  “Oh shi- I can explain.” Well I’ve got a lot of explaining to do. I wonder how they knew I was here.

Garroth’s POV
  Laurence and I were walking along the wall since neither of us could sleep. We were getting near the end of the wall when we both see Kai run to the other side of the wall.
  “Where is he going,” Laurence ask looking at me.
  “I don’t know but let’s follow him.” He nods and we start heading the way Kai went. We follow him till we can’t see him.
  “Wow, he's fast.”
  “I know.” We keep running to try to keep up with him but we lose track of him.
  “I think he’s running to the river.” I nod and we keep going. As we get there we realize his helmet is off. He sits up and has short red, black, and blue hair. He turns around and we see his face wait- he’s a girl.
  “Why did you guys follow me...say something.”
  “YOU’RE A GIRL!?” both Laurence and I yell together.
  “Oh shi- I can explain.” I have so many questions.
