The sun is rising, and now I'm at the shrine of the mountain with four other people, including the boy who saved me from being eaten by that mutated demon. I'm surprised there are only five of us here, even though there were over twenty others who participated. I hear him mutter, "He's gone. All because I blacked out at that moment. I couldn't save him," and I realize that the boy who was running away from the demon didn't make it. I feel very bad for him.

"I'm gonna die," I hear the blond boy mutter. "I'm a goner. I've survived for now, but soon, I'll be dead."

His words shock me. I don't think he is fit to be a Demon Slayer, yet his master let him go take the Final Selection without any second thoughts.

"Welcome back, everyone," Two familiar voices speak simultaneously, and I see the two young girls walking toward each other and turning to the five of us.

"Congratulations," The white-haired girl says.

"We're pleased to see that you're safe," The black-haired girl says.

"So? I made it back alive. What am I supposed to do now?" The boy with a jagged scar and dark messy hair on the top of his head asks quite rudely, his ill-tempered tone catching my attention. "Where's my sword?"

"Patience. We shall first issue you all uniforms," The white-haired girl tells him. "We'll start by taking your measurements. After that, your rank will be engraved on the back of your hand."

"There are ten ranks in all," The black-haired girl states.

"Kinoe."

"Kinoto."

"Hinoe."

"Hinoto."

"Tsuchinoe."

"Tsuchinoto."

"Kanoe."

"Kanoto."

"Mizunoe."

"Mizunoto."

Geez, that sounds like a lot to remember! My head would blow up!

"You all start at the lowest rank of the Demon Slayer Corps, Mizunoto," The white-haired girl states.

"And our swords?" The same boy asks again, his tone more harsh.

"In a moment, you will be given the chance to select an ore that will be used to forge your swords. However, it will take ten to fifteen days for the weapons to be ready."

"Are you kidding me?" He grumbles.

"But first," She calmly says before clapping her hands twice. I hear squawking noises coming from above, and I look up to see black birds flying down at everyone. I flinch when one lands on my shoulder, and I let it rest on my elbow.

"We will assign each of you new Demon Slayers your own Kasugai Crow," The black-haired girl says.

"Kasugai Crow? What for?" The boy with dark hair and red tips asks curiously.

"These Kasugai Crows can be used primarily for communication."

"Wait, crows? Isn't this a sparrow?" The blond boy asks in confusion. I turn to him and see the small brown bird on the back of his hand.

"I don't need this crap!" The ill-tempered boy growls and shoves his crow away, making me jump and look at him nervously. He sounds like a familiar guy who wanted to beat someone up for not giving him what he wanted. He starts to approach the young girls with a look that reminds me of him. "Who the hell cares about some stupid crow?"

He violently grabs the white-haired girl's hair and has her face him, making me, the blond boy, and the dark-haired boy gasp in shock.

"I want my sword, you hear me? Give it to me right now!" He angrily demands. "The Color-Changing Katana! I want it now!"
