Felix took a deep breath and he turned off the machine.
"Felix are you okay?" Chan asked him.
"Uhm, yeah... I have to go check on some other patients..." Felix muttered.
"Lix..."
"I'm fine I promise... We... We lose people everyday..."
"Felix it is okayto have emotions... Especially when it comes to patients that have been with you for years..." Chan said.
Felix shook his head and left the room.
"Chaeyoung, how is Hyunjin doing?" Felix asked.
"Oh um, I checked on him about an hour ago, he was fine."
"Okay, you help Wooyoung... I'll uhm be on the ninth floor."
Chaeyoung nodded and watched as Felix left.
As soon as Felix entered the elevator he broke down.
It wasn't the first patient he had lost, but it was so different. When he heard the elevator ding he quickly regained himself and wiped his eyes.
The least he could do was make it through the day. Taking another breath he exited the elevator and went straight to Hyunjin's room.
Walking in slightly, he knocked on the door.
"Hi, how are you feeling?" Felix asked.
"A little tired... Haven't been able to sleep much because Doctor Son was in and out of here almost every hour..." Hyunjin said with a small yawn.
Felix walked further into the room and looked at the heart monitor.
"Sorry about that... It is protocol, so we can make sure that your heart continues to beat steadily. This is actually the last time for at least three hours that anyone will be bothering you, so you can get some shut eye..." Felix said.
Hyunjin nodded and looked at Felix.
His brows furrowed seeing the youngers nose red and eyes bloodshot.
"Lix... Are you okay?" Hyunjin questioned.
Felix wiped his nose and nodded.
"Felix, what's the matter?" Hyunjin questioned softly.
Felix shook his head trying to assure Hyunjin he was fine, but tears were already falling.
Hyunjin grabbed Felix's hand and made him sit down.
"I lost a patient... I... I could have done something to prevent it... But I couldn't because she signed a DNR and she didn't want to do tests or surgeries... There should have been more for me to do to help her." Felix cried.
Hyunjin pulled Felix into a hug.
"It happens Felix..."
"I know, I know, it... It is just different... The patient I lost, she was someone who I've known since I was in med school. She ran a café near the school and I'd always- I mean always stay there for hours studying, she'd let me stay there after hours just to study so she could make sure I ate, she became a second mom to me because I was so young.
When I became a resident that is when I figured out she had health issues. She was ninety, but she still came here everyday to see me. She called me an angel... Compared my freckles to stars.." Felix said.
Hyunjin smiled softly and tucked some of Felix's hair behind his ear.
"You are an angel. You save people's lives constantly... You work hours without breaks and your freckles are stars... My favourite one is this one." Hyunjin said poking the heart shaped freckle on Felix's cheek.
Felix laughed a little and wiped his eyes.
"Oh... This is wildly inappropriate..." Felix said quickly standing.
"Why?"
"Because I am your doctor and you are my patient..."
"And we've known each other since we were fifteen and sixteen. We're twenty-two and twenty-three now." Hyunjin said.
"Okay, how about this. In here, when you're in this bed, we are strictly patient and doctor. Outside of here we are friends."
"What about when you're here and off-duty?"
"Then friends. But right now I am on-duty, so that makes us?"
"Strictly patient and doctor." Hyunjin pouted.
"Good. Now, your vitals are fine, in three hours a nurse will be in to check your temperature and vitals again. I have some other patients to check on." Felix told him.
"For real though Lix, are you okay?"
"I was close to her... It hurts, but I still have an obligation to my job and to my patients, so I will be just fine."
"If you say you're okay, then I have no choice but believe you do I?"
Felix smiled.
"Yes you have to believe me."
Hyunjin smiled and nodded.
"Then I believe you."
"Hyunjin!"
Felix's eyes widened slightly hearing the voice.
Hyunjin mentally cursed.
How could they have forgotten the most important thing?
Hyunjin is in a relationship.
