"Pediatrics is a difficult field to be a part of. However this isn't Pediatrics, but we do treat Pediatric level patients. One of my first cases in this particular department was considered a paediatric one." The twenty-four year old stated.
"Are you still treating them?" A student asked.
Felix smiled and nodded.
"I still treat him to this day. He is twenty-five now. We met when I was fifteen and he was sixteen."
"You've been his doctor for nine years?" Another questioned.
"I've been his full-time doctor for eight years. My first year on his case, I was a student." Felix said.
"A cute one too."
Felix looked to his class entrance, smiling when he saw Hyunjin and their daughter.
"What are you two doing here?"
"Wanted to see daddy teach!" The small girl beamed, running up to Felix.
The students all cooed at the small girl. Felix smiled and hugged the little girl, careful with her nasal cannula and backpack.
"Okay, my love, go sit with Appa." Felix said softly.
The girl nodded and went back to Hyunjin.
"What did he mean?" One of Felix's students asked.
Felix hummed and looked to Hyunjin with a small smile.
"We met at that age, but back to the patient I was talking about." Felix stated
"When he was 2 he was diagnosed with a heart condition before that his doctors were worried about his sugars, but those worked out fine. By four he had to have he needed to have a pacemaker.
We, however, are going to fast forward twelve years. The patient is 16 and he comes in with shortness of breath, what should we do first? Leah?"
"Well, he has a heart condition, so we should check his heart first. If the pacemaker is failing or even if he has another heart condition, it could cause shortness of breath." Leah said.
"Shouldn't we try to get his breathing under control first?" Felix questioned.
The girl pursed her lips and nodded.
"The first thing we did before running tests is we made sure his breathing is under some control. After that we checked his pacemaker and tested to see if he had any other conditions. He didn't and his pacemaker was great. What should be our next step, Hikaru.?"
"Check his lungs. If it isn't his heart it's his lungs." Hikaru said.
Felix nodded, "Good job, that's what we should have done. What we did do was give him oxygen and send him home. His sister informed us that he had gone a jog, we figured that it was just due to that."
"Correction, you wanted to check his lungs, Doctor Min and I wanted send him home." Jeongyeon said.
"That is somewhat true." Felix said softly.
"Why didn't you check his lungs then?" Henry questioned.
"I was a student and needed permission." Felix answered.
"Five hours later, the patient came back in. His lung collapsed, one minute he had been coughing the next he was on the floor."
"How did his lung collapse?" Minju asked.
"We found out from our patient's little brother that our patient had smoking four months prior, 3 cigarettes a week." Felix said.
"Bad heart already, it seems like he was asking for bad lungs as well." Leah stated.
