Saying Jimin's nervous is an understatement. He's already gone beyond that. Even though he's in the very back of the stadium where Jungkook would never in a million years be able to spot him, he's worried that he might. He seriously doesn't want to answer any questions, especially since he doesn't have the answers.
"Relax, will you?" Tae elbows his friend. "We're fine. You're fine."
"I know. I'm relaxed." Jimin crosses his arms. They're waiting for Jungkook to come out. The suspension is literally killing Jimin.
"Look, here he comes!" Tae squeals happily. They watch the big screen to see Jungkook walking out on stage. He smiles and waves at his fans. Jimin's heart is pounding so hard it hurts.
"He looks different." Jimin notices in surprise.
"Yeah, because they dyed his hair and did his makeup." Tae nods. "He looks good though, don't you think?"
"I guess." Jimin shrugs, but he knows Tae's right. Jungkook looks amazing.
To be honest, as Jungkook starts singing and interacting with fans, Jimin feels severely left out. When he first met Jungkook, he had no clue who he was, and even after he found out, he only ever listened to one song once. He didn't even get to hear Jungkook sing when it was just them two. The thought makes Jimin want to go home. He doesn't have as much of a connection with Jungkook as his millions of fans do. Jimin could never take him away from them.
"Why do you look like that?" Tae leans over to shout in Jimin's ear as Jungkook starts his fifth song.
"Like what?" Jimin shouts back.
"Like you don't want to be here any longer." Tae frowns, but still sways to Jungkook's singing. "Don't tell me you wanna leave already..."
"It's fine. You wanted to come so we'll stay. And I'm fine like I said earlier. Don't worry about me." Jimin faces the front again.
Jungkook finishes off his song and smiles into the crowd. "So, you guys may know that I recently took a month hiatus from activities." Jungkook begins. Everyone screams. "I went home to Busan for a while, you probably saw the pictures. Anyway, I made a lot of great friends back home. Most notably three guys. Hoseok, Taehyung, and Jimin." Jungkook says.
Tae grins widely at Jimin, but his face falls when he sees tears starting to form in Jimin's eyes. No, no, no. This is not what Jimin wants to happen right now.
"After meeting them, I didn't want to come back home because I got so close to them. Especially Jimin. He didn't even know who I was when we first met. He treated me like I was just another spoiled kid, and that's what I like the most about him. He's real."
"Jimin..." Tae wraps an arm around his best friend as tears pour from his eyes. Jimin can't take this. He knew he shouldn't have come. All of this was a mistake.
"And even though Jimin's drifted away from me since I left home, I still love him. So I'm gonna sing this cover I did a little while ago. For him. 2U." Jungkook says.
As the song starts and Jungkook begins singing about tears and promises, Jimin can't take it anymore. He can't do it. He can't stay.
"Jimin? What are you doing?" Tae asks worriedly as his friend starts walking off.
"I'm leaving. Just go to the hotel and stay here tonight. I'm going home." Jimin sniffles, wiping his eyes.
"Wait, you can expect me to just let you go like this--" Tae put a hand on Jimin's shoulder as he retreats, but Jimin smacks it off and spins around to look at his friend.
"I can't do this. If you're my friend, you won't make me." Jimin clenches his fists. Tae knows he can't argue with that. He can't force Jimin to stay here if it's truly that painful to him. So he stays silent and lets Jimin walks away.
Jimin practically runs to his car and starts it up quickly. He was supposed to stay with Tae at a hotel tonight, but Tae's an adult. He'll be fine on his own, right? Jimin can't handle this right now and all he wants to do is go home.
And that's exactly what he does.
Even though he's in no condition to be driving four hours back to Busan, he does just that. He drives through his blurry tears, speeding the whole way. It's a wonder he wasn't pulled over.
Once he gets home, he goes straight to his room without saying anything to his confused parents and cries even more.
That is until he gets a call.
Checking his phone, Jimin sees it's Tae. He does feel bad for stranding him in Seoul, so he answers.
"Tae..." Jimin starts, sniffling.
"Don't hang up." The voice on the other end says. It's not Tae. It's Jungkook. Jimin can recognize his voice anywhere. "Don't hang up and just listen." He repeats to a frozen Jimin.
"I'm sorry. I knew you were there tonight. I sent Tae the tickets to get you to come, and I planned the whole song thing. I thought it would work, but I guess it didn't." Jungkook sighs. "Look, Jimin. I just confessed my love for you in front of like ten thousand people. I love you. All I want to know is if you feel the same about me."
Jimin's tears seem to keep coming out without an end in sight. He doesn't know what to say or what to do. He just doesn't want to think anymore.
"Jimin, please say something." Jungkook whispers sadly into the phone. But Jimin, being the coward he is, just hangs up. He ends the call and shuts his phone off for the night. He can't do it. He just can't.
